Should a pregnancy test always get darker

Tested 14dpo and 16dpo and test line are very light and haven't progressed in those 48hrs. Is that concerning ?
I had ivf which my dates same as 16dpo today not a miscalculation

If everything is exactly the same then yes lines should get darker as hcg increases. However tests can be slightly different, eg slightly more or less dye in different ones, and you could be more or less hydrated. I believe manufacturers are clear that tests should only be used to establish if you're pregnant, not how it is progressing

Hopefully everything will work out fine for you but in my experience the tests should start getting darker. I tested positive at 14DPO but the tests stayed the same until 20DPO. I knew something was wrong and went for an early scan and I had a blighted ovum and eventually miscarried.
If you had IVF they should be giving you an early scan? So hopefully you’ll get positive confirmation that all is well soon.

Yes I'm offered an early scan but not for another 3 weeks.
I guess I'm worried as I've had a previous chemical

Honestly that is pretty light for the equivalent of 16dpo. I hope it's good news but I would guard your heart

Keep testing daily and good luck.

ASGIRC · 10/11/2023 07:43

@Lilacdream Im sorry, at 11dpt the lines should be much darker and getting darker still...
I have had stories of slow rising hCG, and then it progressing into a viable pregnacy, but unfortunately that is not the norm.
I would hope for the best,, but expect the worst.

As others have said, that’s a lighter line than you would typically see at this point.

Doesnt mean it’s guaranteed bad news but just a warning really

Lilacdream · 15/11/2023 23:32

Since this post I'm now producing strong tests. I also had my hcg levels checked with a blood test and they are happy with they are in the normal range

Brilliant news!

pregnancy tests specifically say they are not designed to be used like this. Although in theory you’d think more hcg should equal darker lines, that’s not what they’re designed for. It’s a binary result - positive or negative. For some reason the darkness of the line can be influenced by other factors. The only way to measure the levels is a blood test so do speak with your doctor if you’re worried.

@Lilacdream that's great!
