Hi my agency have offered me work for tomorrow and when I told them I have a midwife tomorrow lunchtime they said the school requires someone that can do all day is that discrimination?

I would assume it’s not. They need a supply teacher to presumably cover an all day absence… are they meant to get a supply teacher to cover the supply teacher?

from a legal perspective, I’d guess your employment is through an agency - not the school, so the school isn’t your employer who needs to give you time off the attend appointments.

Not for short term supply. The contract is for a set period of time which you can't fulfil due to your appointment, they need someone for this specific period. If it was 6 weeks and you needed 2 hours off that would be something they should be able to accommodate

No, I don't think so. If you can't provide the level of cover that the school needs for the hours in which it's needed, then what would be the point?

If it’s agency just do the days you can. You can’t tomorrow. I assume it’s one off work, no contract.

Confused Of course it's not discrimination! If they need someone all day, they need someone all day. Presumably they would have turned down anyone who couldn't work all day because of any appointment or other commitment.

It’s irrelevant why you are unable to work tomorrow. You are just not available for work tomorrow.
You don’t take on one days work and then say ‘ oh by the way, I’ll need to leave 3 hours early’!
School are paying supply because they desperately need cover. You ducking out makes the situation worse for them not better!

Are you being serious? The school will be paying around £200 for supply cover for the day because they need cover. And you expect them to pay you for an assignment you can't fulfill? Who's going to cover the class?🤔
