Intense symptoms. 6 weeks & struggling

Hi everyone,

I'm 6 weeks pregnant and extremely miserable due to the intensity of the symptoms. I tested positive at 3 weeks and symptoms started at 4 weeks and have got worse over the last two weeks. I also seem to have every single symptom possible.

  • Nausea
  • acid
  • headaches / migraines
  • dizziness and weakness to the point I can only stand for around 30 seconds and need help walking
  • cannot sleep at all
  • horrible stomach cramps
  • constipation
  • sudden sharp pain in chest / heart area that lasts for a few minutes
  • vagina smells horrific?
  • food & drink aversions

So my question is, is the amount and intensity of these symptoms normal? I feel like it isn't??

Thanks in advance

I have also felt incredibly intense symptoms, I cannot bear my own scent and the nausea has just been awful. I think there are just some of us who get terrible symptoms. At nearly 11 weeks the symptoms are improving. Wishing you the very best.

I could have typed this myself two weeks ago! It turned out I had a water infection (UTI), which made my nausea much worse. I couldn’t stand without wanted to faint and throw up at the same time, thankfully I was off work for the half term of school and I could lie down. I was given antibiotics and it really helped.

I just wondered, you mentioned about the vagina and I wondered if you had any other symptoms down there? Just curious, if that could be it too?

Could it be hyperemesis? I had it and symptoms kicked in very early on and I needed medication. There's a hyperemesis support page on here that's amazing and got me through two hg pregnancies so definitely reach out on there too.

Sounds exactly like me then! GP said it was hyperemisis and I ended up signed off work for about 2 and a half weeks because I just couldn’t keep going. I’m going back tomorrow now that we’ve got the anti sickness tablets sorted out and everything under control.

I’m 11+3 and with the anti sickness tablets now kicking in I’m feeling so much better other than my boobs being quite sore. I’ve got my 12 scan on Friday so hoping all goes ok.

I hope you feel better soon but don’t hesitate to contact your GP if it’s continuing like this!

Thanks all! Have an app with GP tomorrow at 9am :)

How did it go? I'm finding the nausea and fatigue the worse for me

Not that helpful, just said it's normal. I have tablets for acid / gastro problems and having a blood test on Saturday to check for anaemia.

I was just sat crying at her saying how much I was struggling and she just said to see how I go and get in touch if it gets worse.

Please please get a 2nd opinion. I was told that as well by 2 GPs. Ended up going to the EPU at my hospital and they gave me tablets and Iv fluids. Made me feel a 1000 times better. Also if you go on the pregnancy sickness support website they have a list of hospitals that have HG day units. Please don't suffer OP. GPs aren't trained in HG. The sooner you can get on top of it now the better. My GP actually apologised afterwards for not helping me enough and said he is very grateful that it opened his eyes for future patients to get them the help they need.
I hope you're OK.

Thank you abbs1, that's very helpful!

If its any comfort to you I was on ondansatron from 7+4 (iv and tablets). Then the hospital added in metoclopromide at 9 weeks and then from 12-20 weeks iv and tablet steroids as I was at the day unit in EPU everyday for fluids as the nausea was so bad I was vomitting everything even water out. I lost a lot of weight as I couldn't eat.
2nd pregnancy the pregnancy sickness support told me about xonvea which I took from 5 weeks pregnant and the difference was amazing. I had nausea but nothing like my first pregnancy and only vomited once unlike my first pregnancy when I was vomitting every few minutes.
If you need your partner or a family member friend to help advocate for you do or even write it down to give the GP etc if you can't talk.
