Do you ever feel like an 'interesting case study' when pregnant? Or is it just me?

20 weeks pregnant with DS. DD is 16 months old. When I had her I had three scans - the usual two plus breech scare.

Today had anomaly scan with DS. He's absolutely sodding well fine (waved his willy at the sonographer and everything).

I however have some interesting health issues, a hole in my heart, some unusual defects with my blood which mean it doesn't clot well periodically and a history of pre-eclampsia.

Last time I saw a consultant, a medical student was summoned to 'look at the unusual uterine structure'. The haematology dept asked an extra vial so they could replicate tests with their research team; meanwhile researchers waited outside to enquire if I'd mind letting them have the placenta (when DS has finished with it obviously) because they are interested in looking at it.

Today's adventure, a referral to cardiac neonatalogists, not because they think anything is wrong with DS, but because they 'want to check' because it is possible that if I have a VSD he may have malformed heart valves (no sign of this on the regular U/S).

Now I'm a concerned mum so obviously yes of course I'm going to go to find out, but I'm starting to feel like a circus freak whenever I go to the hospital.

Ah the perils of attending a teaching hospital.

Yep. I had an MRI scan. 30 minutes of lying motionless on my back in a tube at 28 weeks was not fun. And the results? Well, they took a guess at what they could see. And when I had the cs, they compared their guess to what they saw inside me. And filed the results away for the next woman with the same condition.

OK, they've got to learn somehow, but still!

What bugs me is in my last pregnancy they had no bloody idea about my blood clotting disorder. I was there in the delivery room explaining to the haemotologist and anaesthesiologist what it meant and they were taking notes and then going off and Googling (and worse still coming back and admitting they were doing so) all the while saying 'sorry no drugs for you till we know what we are dealing with'.

But now....now they have a training module on it. Guess who they used for the training manual. Yep, you guessed it. I'm a veritable legend in my own lunchtime

So last time, I suffered and this time, I'm considered one of their victories because I've made them leading edge (or should that be bleeding edge?

LOL Pruners! So glad it's not just me being tormented by the JR!

I have illuminous yellow stickers on my notes now - with ALLERGY NOTICE on them - yet the esteemed head consultant still tried to stick a plaster on me two weeks ago (I'm hideously allergic to them and blister within seconds).
