Please tell me how I'm supposed to eat a healthy balanced diet when I'm currently feeling sick 24/7 (literally no break from it) and can only stomach mashed potato, crackers, plain chicken and buttered bread/toast (I'll turn in to a carbohydrate at this rate! Haha.) Also trying to drink anything is difficult because even water makes me heave.

I lost my previous pregnancy at 6 weeks and I'm currently 6 weeks 1 day with this one so I suppose it's a good sign? but my gosh it's kicking my a**e and being someone who is big in to fitness and healthy eating being unable to eat anything else or do much other than sit with a bucket between my legs is killing me.
Any advice please!

Agree with others saying just eat what you can for now, baby will take what they need! For hydration, I found lemon and ginger tea ok when I was very nauseous, or sometimes just sucking ice cubes / healthy ice lollies can be easier to manage than an actual drink. Hope you start feeling better soon.

Just eat and drink what you can. I found I felt better around lunchtime so tried to have a cooked, healthy meal then, rather than dinner time. Hopefully it will ease in second trimester and you can have a healthier diet then.

I’ve been off my whole pregnancy. I also work in the NHS but as a physio and there’s no way I could do my job. Speak to your GP who can sign you off as pregnancy related illness and it can’t be used against you for any disciplinary action. I tried going back to work when I was 14 weeks pregnant and ended up going back off sick for the rest of the pregnancy. It’s hell trying to work with bad nausea, impossible I would say!

Oh bless you! If things get worse I think I'll have to do that. Sorry if this is being intrusive, and please don't feel you need to answer if you don't want to, but did it effect your maternity pay/leave?
I know my colleague was forced to take her maternity leave early which then obviously effected how long she received the pay for too and unfortunately we're not in the financial position for me to have any longer than 6 months.

@Owlette31 yeah massively! Not sure to what extent yet as I’m still using A/L until due date (next week) but I’ve not been at the trust long so my sick pay hasn’t been great and obviously it gets calculated based on certain dates and I’m sure I’ve been on half pay during those dates, but absolutely no way I could have worked through it and will unfortunately have to take the hit!
you likely will feel better as you get further along, I’m just a rare and unlucky case unfortunately and my body clearly doesn’t like growing a child!
if you find your trusts maternity pay policy it should explain how maternity pay is calculated and if you do end up still being off when those dates are, I would suggest, if you are able to, using up some annual leave instead of sick leave on those weeks (if you are on reduced pay at that point) so your maternity pay won’t be affected! Hope that makes sense..

Just eat whatever you can stomach. Try and take vitamins if you can. Literally that, try not to feel guilty.

Re work, I work from home doing a phone based job but sometimes webchat and written work. My work were good at allowing me the day on webchat when I was feeling really rough last week, my lower back, bum and stomach were so painful I was stood swaying side to side to ease the pain for hours. I think now it was due to the high amount of food I ate the night before and the type of food (fish and chips) but I was very alarmed at the time. A day of no eating then an urge for salt and vinegar was defo not helpful ha.

Looking at my maternity policy if I'm sick in the 4 weeks leading to my maternity date they would start my leave early. Until then it's treated as sickness and paid in the same way (13 weeks full, 13 weeks half then SSP). Not forced to take Annual leave before maternity but any carried over from a previous holiday year will be tagged on to the end before returning. Guessing anyone on SSP or low pay could ask for holiday to be paid in the place of it.

I may have struggled to manage to get into work a couple of the days the last few weeks.

Yeah it made perfect sense, thank you.
Hope all goes well with the birth! Not long now :) x

I’m with you!
currently living on white bread, cheese, wotsits and my kids petit filous yogurts here - I think when you feel so sick all the time you have to just go into survival mode and do what you can.
I manage the odd banana and vegetable and got a thing for fresh tropical juice at the moment too so hoping there’s so goodness getting in!

Just echoing all the other comments. Please please don’t feel guilty and eat whatever you can stomach/keep down. I pretty much lived off potatoes, biscuits and air fryer beige stuff for the first few weeks of pregnancy and felt pretty guilty about whether I was giving my baby the right nutrition, as well as worrying about my own health and weight gain.

I’m now week 15, nausea eased off by week 14 and since then I’ve been very into fruit and veggies. The idea of eating beige is no where near as appealing as it was!

Our bodies are bloomin’ magical and they know what they’re doing!
