Induction with pessary

Hi!

So I am being induced today I'm 37 weeks exactly I'm being induced early due to preeclampsia

I had the pessary (the tampon like thing) inserted at about 5pm and by 7pm I was having like small cramps, they're not extremely painful but definitely noticeable they're like the type of cramps you'd get in the lead up to your period and then they kinda ramped up to period pain cramps by 9pm again not painful but not comfy either, they come every like 10 minutes or so, the midwife said cramps are normal but has anyone else experienced this sort of thing this quickly? This is my first baby and I'm only 37 weeks so I'm really not prepared for things to go quickly 😂 the doctor told us preeclampsia can make induction/labour go quicker but I'm not sure how true that is. Anyone had any similar experiences?

Haven’t had the pessary but was what my early labour felt like

Yes. I remember with my DD I had it inserted around 1.30pm. They then acted thru didn't believe I was having loads of contractions. Finally after my DP timed them as being every 5 minutes at 3.30pm they removed it. I didn't have preeclampsia but my DD was induced at 39 weeks due to other medical issues.

I spoke to a neighbour afterwards and she had the same reaction to the pessary. She was simply overdue.

Btw the reason I remember what happened is because I was not believed when I was complaining of frequent contractions.

Also we went for a walk around the hospital grounds after insertion and I had to return to the unit after getting half way round as I had sharp muscle pain in my right leg and could hardly walk.

When I was induced it took over 24 hours before I started to have contractions, then they went from niggles every 10 minutes to her being born 2 hours later!

Hi there, I am a midwife. Your doctor is right. Quick response to pessary is quite common in pre eclampsia

Further to the earlier message... it is a good thing. Inductions could last 3 days and more. Sharp, short and successful is the way to go! Good luck

At 37 weeks, you’re likely to go through the whole range of induction strategies. They’ll break your waters, then stick you on a drip to start contractions. Be warned, induction contractions are not like normal contractions. I managed my first birth drug free fine but I really wanted an epidural ( don’t get one sadly) on the drip as it was hideously painful.
