Please can anybody help as I'm not finding anything usefull on Google!! I am new to mumsnet... and this is my first time been pregnant, and I am 6 weeks (Monday just gone) the sickness is already getting unbearable, to the point where even thinking about putting food in my mouth turns my stomach and I was up at 4am this morning eating a bowl of cereal to try to not be sick!!! I havent actually vomited, just really feel like I'm going to quite often.
I've tried ginger biscuits but they don't seem to be helping... any advice will be massively appreciated! Thankyou 🤍

Get yourself to your GP ASAP. There’s plenty things that they can give you to help.

I’ve got hyperemisis and it started around the 6 week mark so make sure you’re getting the help you need for you and baby.

I’m nearly 11 weeks and it’s starting to ease up a bit so there’s light at the end of the tunnel!

Featherboyle28 · 01/11/2023 12:40

Ok thankyou, I will ring them this afternoon. I don't know how anyone copes with this for weeks on end I've felt unwell for 5 days and already struggling 😪 thankyou for your help x

I’ve been off work for 2 weeks because I just couldn’t do it anymore so totally understand! If you are struggling to keep fluids in my biggest tip is ice poles, they’ve been a life saver for me.

If it helps, my GP and midwife both said that if you are very sick it means that baby is doing really well so I hope that’s true!

Featherboyle28 · 01/11/2023 13:06

I can imagine you have to be off work, I went to work this morning but only lasted 2 hours although I haven't been sick I think it would be better if I was then the sicky feeling might pass quicker!!
Thankyou for that, I have seen that online so yes I also hope it is true.. we just have to keep thinking it will be worth it in the end!!

My work have been great with supporting and I think it helps that our head of department went through this with one of her boys so understands!

I assume you’ve not had a midwife appointment yet so just badger the GP to see you. I was passed back and forth on a few calls before I got a call with the GP who tried to tell me I should see the midwife first, a week later the midwife confirmed it’s GP first because they can’t do prescriptions but I did end up getting something. I’ve now moved on to another anti sickness tablet and it’s helping with the feeling of nausea but I’m still sick every so often.

Hope you get sorted soon!

I lost over a stone. Never really threw up, just couldn't eat due to nausea. Take opportunities when they arise. I could only manange ready salted crisps, salty chips and duck spring rolls smothered in hoisin sauce for ages 😂 sour sweets also really helped like tangfastics.

Never could get ginger down, didn't help me at all. The traditional remedies don't work for everyone. See what you can manage. Don't be afraid to reach out to GP for help, unfortunately they were pretty shit with me. Feel better soon!

Givemepickles · 01/11/2023 13:22

Assuming you have morning sickness and not hyperemisis, try not to worry too much, it does pass! You'll likely be feeling much better by week 13 or 14. I know that's still shit but something to hold on to.

Try chewing small pieces of crystallised ginger.
Also mints like mentos or polos. Peppermint tea too.

Eat whatever you can. I spent most of my first trimester eating salt and vinegar crisps, sour sweets and dry toast.

I was same as you and never threw up but felt atrocious and serious food aversions.

Also get rid of anything in your house with a strong odour like scented candles etc. They used to set me off.

Featherboyle28 · 01/11/2023 14:49

Thanks so much for all your advice it is so appreciated. I will give the GP a call, and im going to try the sour sweets as I've heard that and the ginger buscuit now is just leave a horrible taste 😔
It's an amazing thing that's happening isn't it its just such a shame it comes with feeling such poo... fingers crossed after a couple of weeks it calms!! I'll be sending him out to the shops for tanfastics 🤣🤣🤍

I was never sick but felt sick.

I think once you take the first bite of food it gets better?
I liked pepperoni pizza or a baked potato with cheese and beans. I think carbs helped me!

Very individual. Never helped me. I wouldn't throw up but the second food got into my throat I'd wretch until it came back up, couldn't get it down. If by some miracle I managed to get a bite or two down it felt like it was rolling around in my stomach and I'd wretch and wretch but it wouldn't come up and I'd feel worse than having not eaten at all. Thankfully I never had issues with keeping liquid in but food was god awful.

Nausea largely was gone around 16-18 week mark. The food aversion stuck around much longer, until about 24 weeks. I remember sobbing to DH at around 20 weeks that I still didn't want food and would never enjoy it again (I was quite a foodie before). It did go, for about 4 weeks before starting to come back around the 28 week mark. Now 36 weeks and have the odd bout of nausea/aversion but nothing at all compared to the first bit. If I fancy something I even enjoy it 😂. Small wins!

Phopet · 01/11/2023 16:02

Oh it’s god awful, I really feel for you. Mine got worse with each pregnancy and lasted week 6-14 every time. The third pregnancy was the worst I literally couldn’t move without heaving and gagging and barely ate anything. All I could ever manage were plain jacket potato’s. I went to the GP and they gave me a few different tAblets but the only thing that really worked for me was ondansetron- it made me able to function. Don’t be fobbed off by them, it can be totally debilitating and much like everything to do with pregnancy and childbirth- you’re just expected to grin and bear it because that’s what women have always done.

Featherboyle28 · 01/11/2023 16:54

It's so awful for everybody, I don't understand these people who don't know theyre pregnant until 6 months gone!! Yeah, I am wanting to try a different stay away from taking tablets if I can but I think if I have another day like today I will have to rethink that decision as ive been in bed all day!

Please goto your GP, I have been there it is awful I had hyperemisis through my whole pregnancy could barely eat or drink anything without vomiting even in the delivery suit !! Ended up in A&E on a few occasions because I was so dehydrated it was awful. I felt like I had motion sickness constantly ! It did die down for a few week around 6 months when all I could eat was any thing sweet and had strawberry's in it I couldn't eat meat at all so I sympathise with you completely. Try drink as much as you can and toast does help. Not to scare you you probably don't have that and will be morning sickness and will go away in a few weeks but if not take the tablets they will do no harm to you or your baby and make your pregnancy enjoyable. Congratulations Smile

Featherboyle28 · 01/11/2023 20:19

Aww sorry to hear that, that must have been terrible to even be feeling like that in labour! I will be giving them a call just to check everything is normal and ok, I think with it been my first pregnancy you don't know what's 'normal' and what's not! Thankyou x

Same boat as you OP first pregnancy, 6+ weeks and the nausea is terrible. I wish I could vomit just to see if it helps. I'm not off food completely but have noticed a difference in how much I'm eating. The doctors just advised me to try ginger biscuits and those anti sickness wrist bands 🙄

It's awful isn't it I feel bad for feeling upset about how unwell I am feeling, I am so greatful and I feel so lucky for been pregnant but I cant help getting upset about how unwell I feel. I've now been in bed 3days straight!! Maybe call the GP back and insist on some tablets , he perscribed me antisickness tablets straight away... I am also used the wrist bands but I don't feel much better tbh 😔

I found lemon and honey hot water nice to drink then I could tolerate food better afterwards, maybe try warm milk too
