Hi
has anyone got any experience of cyclogest? History of recurrent miscarriage and been given it today by EPU at 5 weeks + 4.
x

Yes, used it in both of my successful pregnancies and a couple which weren’t. What would you like to know?

Igglepiggleandhisboat · 30/10/2023 18:06

I’ve scared myself by stumbling on an old mumsnet thread that suggested it can cause cancer and I’m terrified now!

I know it’s strange to ask on here but the doctor at EPU was so dismissive and don’t explain anything very well. She wasn’t even sure if I should be prescribed it?! Aarrghh!

It will not cause cancer. It could save you from having another miscarriage.

Thank you for your message. No one could answer my questions at the hospital but now have the prescription and have read the leaflet. I feel ok now. Teach me for googling first 🤦🏻‍♀️

I was on cyclogest and although the side effects were awful for me (bloating, headaches etc) it saved my pregnancy!

I’ve been told to take these rectally (sorry TMI). Did anyone else do this? Everything I read says doing it vaginally!

Mine said you can do it either way but I got awful side effects from using it vaginally so yes I found rectally was better for me x

TheBirdintheCave · 30/10/2023 22:37

I have recurrent miscarriage (unknown cause) and have been on Cyclogest since 3dpo with this one. Currently 11+4 and this is the furthest I've got since my son was born in 2020.

Good luck with your pregnancy!

TheBirdintheCave · 30/10/2023 22:38

Oh and mine are rectally. I had to do vaginal pessaries for IVF and hated it.

Milkand2sugarsplease · 30/10/2023 22:47

I started using it vaginally following ivf but was advised to try anally after a small bleed because they can irritate the vagina. No issues after swapping and used them daily up to 12 weeks.

Thriving30 · 31/10/2023 07:20

Hi I'm at the exact same stage as you and I've just been prescribed it too! (I'm 5+4 today!) I started it last night and woke up in a really good mood for some reason! (I've read that progesterone is a mood booster) so maybe it proves my natural progesterone is a bit on the low side? Who knows!
I was also really confused bc mine was prescribed rectally, I rang EPU and they said it can be used either way, it does say that on the packet as well. I've heard that vaginally can actually cause bleeding in some people though

Dani46 · 01/11/2023 20:59

I’ve been prescribed this today to take twice daily along with 150mg aspirin. I had a small bleed on Sunday night. I’m guessing it was old blood, I did put a pad on and thankfully didn’t get any at all on that. Had none since either.
Im just wondering is it possible to take too much? Would that cause any harm? Mine are 400mg twice daily.
she also just mentioned taking them vaginally but on the pack it says both, I think if its easier I’m going to do them rectally x

Dani46 · 01/11/2023 20:59

I’m 8 weeks today. Furthest I have gotten now. I had a mmc in July and I’m praying I get my rainbow 🌈

mumbrain247 · 01/11/2023 21:17

I've used it up to 12 weeks on my 2 successful pregnancies, and now again for current pregnancy, following recurrent miscarriage. Gives me terrible headaches and hunger, but I guess that's a small price to pay.

Never knew you could take rectally, does that help with the side effects?

Dani46 · 02/11/2023 16:41

@mumbrain247 yeh the pack on mine says vaginally or rectally. I may try them rectally and see how I get on.
I only started taking them yesterday, so this is my second day and up to now I don’t think I’ve had any side affects as of yet. I would say I’m tired but I’ve also been tired before taking this

Dani46 · 02/11/2023 16:42

Have you ever had a back back though from them? Today I’ve noticed I’ve got a little twinge in my back but I don’t know if that’s because I’ve been busy today and not sat down for a good few hours

Igglepiggleandhisboat · 02/11/2023 17:59

I’ve had backache since I started it x

Dani46 · 02/11/2023 18:12

Oh that gives me some relief! Have you had any other symptoms?

Igglepiggleandhisboat · 02/11/2023 18:19

Pregnancy ones but not sure if it’s pregnancy ones or to do with the cyclogest!
