Is a lot of movement ever a bad thing?

Just wondering really. I'm 30ish weeks and baby has been active from very early on, much more so than my last two. My midwife says it's a good sign in the sense that not much movement can be a cause for concern. I get quite hefty, jerky movements, although he seems to stay in pretty much the same head-down position. Do babies get uncomfortable or distressed in the womb? Would appreciate any thoughts.

No the baby will be fine the jerks you are feeling are probably hiccoughs.

My dd1 was very active in the womb. She still is very active now aged four!

awww

no i don't see how it could be bad

dd2 was easily the most active, is now pretty placid

in nice way...those of us who have done this 3 times have perhaps less tone in this area...this might be a contributing factor, i'm afraid...

It also depends on the position of the placenta as to how well you feel the kicks.

My ds didn't stop moving, ever!
He always wriggled too much for scans and it was a nightmare to find his heartbeat.
Once he was born he had to go in a cot as he moved so much we thought he'd tip the moses basket up.
He's 25 months now and doesn't stand still for more than 2 seconds!
You've probably got a lively one on your hands!!

the baby's heartrate should give an indictor of whether the baby is distressed or no. So if the baby's heart rate is ok, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for the replies - all very reassuring This one feels so extraordinarily different from the last two it just set me thinking. But I can see the sense in all the replies here - not worried anymore
