Hiya ladies iv been eating toast the whole pregnancy currently 25 weeks and 4 days however my man keeps butter on the kitchen counter rather than the fridge he keeps spare butter in the fridge but the one we use on the kitchen counter I never thought anything of it until now but is that okay? Just need abit of reassurance X

Most people leave their butter at room temperature.

HauntedGusset · 30/10/2023 10:02

Of course it's ok, what makes you think it isn't?

Mumoftwotoddlers · 30/10/2023 10:04

Of course you can

Blueey · 30/10/2023 10:05

I ate butter stored on the counter through both pregnancies. Never even considered it. Both uneventful pregnancies that resulted in healthy children! Hope that's some reassurance. I can't see why it would be a problem at all.

Whataretheodds · 30/10/2023 10:06

If the butter isn't off it's fine to eat.

I don't put the whole pat in the butter dish, just take 1/3 or half out of the fridge at a time, it keeps longer.

Comefromaway · 30/10/2023 10:06

Proper butter is meant to be kept at room temperature.

Twillow · 30/10/2023 10:08

It's perfectly fine unless it's out for weeks when it will go rancid, or in very hot weather when it melts! We do it - butter is unspreadable from the fridge. If you're anxious put a portion into the butter dish that will get used within a few day.

PinkRoses1245 · 30/10/2023 10:10

Why wouldn't it be? It's the best way to have it!

NewYorkCheesecakeASAP · 30/10/2023 10:52

Yes think most people do that these days

CornishGem1975 · 30/10/2023 11:00

Part Irish here. Butter was NEVER EVER kept in the fridge, always in a dish in the middle of the table at grannies.

ThanksItHasPockets · 30/10/2023 11:01

Absolutely fine. You would know immediately if the butter was rancid and it would be inedible.

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/10/2023 11:02

Of course. Is it salted? Salt is an excellent preservative.

Misssassy89 · 30/10/2023 11:02

Yes

The only pregnancy I didn't do this is when we were living in Australia, it was 34 degrees and the butter smelled terrible. Very easy to tell!

Mummytobe0824 · 30/10/2023 11:59

Thankyou everyone I feel much better now I was only wondering as it says on the tub keep refrigerated below 5 degrees however knowing other pregnant women also don’t keep it in the fridge and eat it has made me feel a lot better😊xx

In a tub? Butter doesn't come in tubs unless is mixed with veg oil or is actually marg.

Comefromaway · 30/10/2023 12:49

Can I clarify that we are talking about "best butter" which comes in a block?

If it is margerine or something like anchor spreadable then that should be refrigerated (although it being out for a day at this time of year won't hurt)

BFG2023 · 09/03/2024 17:47

Butter does NOT come in a tub, so if you're talking about spread, it should be refrigerated

MuggedByReality · 09/03/2024 17:49

Nobody actually keeps butter in the fridge, do they? And if they do, how do they spread the stuff?

GrumpyPanda · 09/03/2024 17:50

People ate butter before refrigerators. Barrels of Irish butter were exported long-distance by ship.
