Can I change my midwife?!

So I recently found out I’m pregnant again, but the only midwife at my doctors surgery is my first child’s auntie on her dad’s side, they are a very close family and I was with him for several years and don’t feel comfortable at all with her being my midwife. As I can’t ask to see another midwife since she’s the only one there, does anyone know what else I can do? Thank you

You absolutely can and should change your midwife. Makes such a difference to your care. Not sure how it works in your area but I was unhappy with mine, I called my maternity team and asked to speak to the midwife in charge. She was really helpful and said they get this a lot, some people just don’t click. She changed mine there and then on the phone. Good luck OP

I don't see my local community midwives as I opted to birth out of area and so see their community midwives, can you do that?

They will be part of a wider team of community midwives that serve neighbouring areas and surgeries I would imagine. I would ask the GP surgery for the contact details of the midwife in charge of the team and explain to them the situation- they will likely ask you to attend a neighbouring surgery to see a different midwife or advise you of your options. Totally understandable why you would not want this midwife.
