Who signed your fit to fly note?

My GP doesn't sign fit to fly notes, I've left a message with my midwife to ask her but the airlines form says "physician" so not sure if she would.

Who signed yours?

Wondering if I'll need to book an in-person visit to a private GP instead.

@fitforflight did you find anyone who would do the specific form that your airline needed?

I’m having exactly same issue as you - loads of places that’ll to their own letter, but I don’t know if that will be acceptable because BA have their own form they want stamped

I had confirmation on an email from Aer Lingus that they'd accept any doctor's letter providing it had certain info on it, didn't need to be their specific one in the end. Might be worth asking BA?

I would not entirely be happy with an employer expecting me to fly at 28 weeks plus. When pregnant an employer must reduce, remove or control any risk to you or your baby. Knowing you need to get the fit to fly is surely not complying with the law? Airlines are right to say it’s not always safe to fly either. Your employer has a duty to assess what hours and work you can do. As you need a fit to fly form, they clearly haven’t done this. All work and related activities should be reviewed. I assume you would expect damages from them if you gave birth in the flight? Or abroad with huge associated costs in some countries? Who is insuring you?

A private GP. 18 years ago and even then my normal GP wouldn't do it.

I work in maternity services and we have had a central directive not to sign under any circumstances, I think secondary to an audit of how much appointment time it was taking.
The vast majority of airlines accept the 12 week scan - it confirms your gestation with the EDD, how many babies and confirms your identity.

This is an old thread so it's irrelevant now but I'll reply anyway. I wasn't expected to fly at 28 weeks, I was simply invited to attend an event. There was no issue with me saying no, I wanted to go.

When flying at 28 weeks with a normal pregnancy there's no risk to me or the baby. Needing a fit to fly note doesn't mean they aren't complying with the law. I don't know where the hostility against my employer has come from, they did everything they needed to and more to make sure my pregnancy at work was as good as it could be. I had risk assessments, weekly 1-1s with my manager, explicitly told if I needed to log off at any point to have a rest then just to do so.

No, I would not be expecting damages from my employer if I'd given birth on the flight and I was flying England to Belfast to no issue with huge costs.

Oh perfect, thanks - I’ll get in touch with BA, hopefully they are the same :)

Also, sorry for opening up this new thread again! I didn’t expect that would lead to other posts!
