Hyperemesis suddenly stopped at 12 weeks - is that a bad sign?

Hi everyone,

It feels ridiculous to be worried about not having HG symptoms anymore after they were so brutal, but mine suddenly stopped at 12 weeks, just a few days after my scan. It's been 2 weeks of no symptoms, which I was so happy about until someone asked "is everything still ok with the baby?".

Now I'm obviously panicking and reading about missed miscarriages. Does anyone have any experience with any of this? Did anyone else's HG suddenly stop so early but everything was fine?

I've got a call with a midwife but they're so busy and oversubscribed in my area that I don't think they'll give me an appointment to come in and listen to the heartbeat. My next routine appointment isn't for 3 weeks.

This is my first pregnancy and I feel utterly clueless about everything. Any help/advice etc. would be appreciated.

It’s almost certainly fine, especially if all was well at your scan. Missed miscarriages are fairly rare, and rarer still after 12 weeks.

Nevertheless if you are really panicking it’s OK to seek reassurance. Most EPU will see you up to 18 weeks and in many areas you can self-refer but you will need to check their referral criteria. Alternatively if it’s affordable you could book a private scan, but be warned that a high street ‘window on the womb’ type place won’t be able to offer any diagnostic support or treatment and they will send you back to the NHS EPU.

My symptoms stopped and started a few times throughout my pregnancy. If everything was ok at your scan I wouldn't worry - although that's easy to say. Focus on eating lots of nutrient rich foods and drinking plenty of water to top yourself up and hopefully you stay HG free

Mine stopped suddenly on a Thursday. Woke up with zero sickness. I can still remember the sweet relief! And everything was fine.

My symptoms just switched off one day at about 14 weeks.

My symptoms stopped about this time as the placenta took over

I believe it’s totally normal and common to feel better between 12-14 weeks (i did) due to the placenta taking over from the hormones.

Thanks so much everyone! It's so reassuring to hear other experiences. Managed to get a midwife appointment and heard the heartbeat which has taken a load of my mind.
