Hi all,

Bit of background, I'm 37 years old and pregnancy with my first, a little boy! I'm 35 weeks pregnant today and just wondering if my age if the fact that I'm a first time parent will give me any indication as to whether I'll be early/late with delivery. Appreciate it's a very open ended question and everyone's experiences will be different but just trying to see if there's a general consensus or if these two factors are ever taken into account. I'm probably just being impatient haha but just so eager now to try and know at what point it might happen! Thanks in advance x

Hey I'm a FTM and I had my little boy last November aged 35. I was 16 days early and loved labour. My waters went at 00:30. I stayed at home, breathing through each contraction and bouncing on my ball watching Taskmaster (laughing=oxytocin).
I eventually caved and went to the hospital when my husband noticed my breathing had changed. I was examined and was 8cms dilated and they could feel the baby's head. Went round to labour and had him in the pool within half an hour at 06:06.
I'd really recommend a hypnobirthing course as it helped me stay focused as I knew what my body was doing.
I'd rather go through labour every 10 months than have a period each month. Good luck!

Wow. I could not have had a more different experience.

Honestly it really is different for everyone, you might be lucky and find it very easy like the previous poster. I don't actually believe that age will play too big a factor in the type of labour you have. I was 34 on my first and I'll be 36 having my second in the next few weeks. Both were extremely easy pregnancies with barely any symptoms and loads of energy and both were conceived very easily on the first try. But I found the labour and delivery extremely difficult. General consensus is that it's much easier the second time around (inductions are much more common in first time pregnancies) so I'm hoping that will be the case for me.

I'm 37 and a few days away from 35 weeks pregnant.
I really don't think age has anything to do with labour.
Like pregnancies they are all different - my pregnancy this time was extremely different to my first as well.
I had a super quick birth last time but felt it was agony!
I don't think it will be as quick this time 🙈
Don't think age will change anything x

Generally first time births are late but obviously on an individual you just don’t know if that’s you. I was 35 with first and two weeks late when I was induced.
