PGLF blood test / high blood pressure/Preeclampsia?

I’m 36 weeks 3 days, I had a scan which was fine, but noted my blood pressure on last check was high normal so had to go get my blood pressure and urine checked after scan. That came back really high it was well over 180/100 and I said I wasn’t feeling too good. I got admitted to hospital for observations and to start blood pressure tablets to lower my blood pressure.

Checked urine a few times one did have +1 protein but the rest didn’t and I was told if preclampsia it would be consistent or get worse (they were trying to check if I had preclampsia) the PGLF blood test that checks for ‘protein in placenta’ apparently the lower the range the higher the chance for preclampsia and the higher the range the lower the chance. So out of 12-100 I was right at the bottom at 12 so my chances are ‘higher’. Because of all this they have brought my c section forward in 1 week time, they discharged me from hospital and I got to go in a few times now for appointments to be monitored this week.

No one has said definitely I got preclampsia but to me it looks that way? I wondered if anyone has got any advice or what all this means and more about this PGLF preclampsia blood test, as obviously it’s abit worrying it all happened so fast x

Not a midwife or other registered HCP. But do have experience, and have had pre-eclampsia twice

As I understand it, the PGLF gives an indication of how likely you are to develop pre-eclampsia in the next week. As you are in the higher range, it's possible.

As for if you have pre-eclampsia, as (as you say) there wasn't consistent or worsening protein in your urine. And I assume your bloods came back ok. Therefore it looks like you have pregnancy induced hypertension (PIH).

The additional monitoring is great. If your PIH does become pre-eclampsia, it will be caught quickly then acted on swiftly.

It is a huge shock when things go suddenly sideways as they have, but they know what they're doing, and are going to be keeping a close eye on you. If anything changes/worsens, please get in contact immediately with your hospital. Don't wait and see, just call and head in.

Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

@Dyra thank you for your answer. How was your preeclampsia? I’m scared but trying to remain calm to rise my blood pressure any further. That’s what a worried me this PIGF blood test shows my chance is high. I had my urine tested again yesterday and it was negative to protein, the blood pressure tablets seem to be working but still on the high-ish side so they have put me from 2 tablets to now 3 tablets a day of labetelol. I’m back tomorrow to have a check over then a pre op on Saturday then c section on Saturday. I’m just worried with all this potentially having preeclampsia x

Truthfully, I would have had no idea I had it if it wasn't for all the results coming back to say I did. I was swollen with my first, but I swell badly in heat even when not pregnant. And it was warm to hot for the last 13 or so weeks of my pregnancy. My second I had zero swelling whatsoever. Both times I was admitted to hospital at 36 weeks, and remained completely stable on labetalol.

If it's within your means it might help you ease your anxiety if you purchased a home blood pressure monitor, and some urine dipsticks? Or even just the dipsticks so you can self test at home?
