Anyone got any tips to help nausea or sickness? I'm 7 weeks pregnant I have 3 children too I'm struggling day to day so bad as for the past 6 days I've had the waking up through the night with nausea all through the next day till night time. Not making me want to eat or even do anything with my day I can't motivate I'm even scared to take kids to school because sometimes it's bad that I'm sick and I'm petrified of being sick , I haven't done my day to day house work as I normally do because this is making me lay down all day which I hate doing! , I feel bad because I can't take my kids out for a walk or anything because of how dreadful I feel , I just wanna feel better n not sluggish n sick constantly any recommendations I could use any advice it would be much appreciated!

Hey there! I'm so sorry you're going through this, it's terrible. I'm 13 weeks with HG (only 1 DC to care for though)... but completely understand how crap you're feeling - if nothing else sometimes it's just nice to know you're battling through it with someone!

My advice if you're at a point where you can keep things down is:

  • ice water with lemon
  • asking around and not being scared to if you've got people around you who can take the edge off childcare whilst you get through the worst of it
  • sit outside and watch them run around, absorb some vitamin D if it's sunny where you are.. the fresh air can help a bit.

If you're past keeping things down/struggling to cope:

  • first thing tomorrow make sure you ring the GP, they will help. Just make sure to really hammer home how awful you're feeling. I made it quite clear that if I couldn't get any relief I would be terminating (admittedly my mental wellbeing was down the pan at this point and I'd hit rock bottom, but on the plus I think they understood how awful I felt quite quickly).
  • I don't know what they'll start you on but I've ended up with cyclizine and ondansetron (this is the strongest and they can be reluctant to prescribe but it really has enabled me to not keel over and die.. haha). Cyclizine can take the edge off the nausea and ondansetron prevents the constant vomiting.

I hope this helps a tiny bit. Big hugs and stay strong. 7 weeks is usually the worst of it, it feels like forever but it won't be long until you're beginning to get out the other side. 💓

Also get onto pregnancy sickness support if you're in need of support regarding the more mental side of things - they listened to me at my lowest and it was just lovely to have someone who "got it".

@inquisitiveinga oh wow it's lovely to hear someone else with mental side. I have mental health issues anxiety and ptsd. The sickness isn't that bad it's more the fact I feel so nauseous everyday to the point I can't move I bend down n gip but because I haven't ate im running to the toilet n being sick nothing. The sickness feeling is the worst for me

It’s been a long time for me and there were no medicines available, but the young women I know have told me they can take Zofran (ondansetron) now and that it helps a lot.

Honestly, nothing I tried helped much. Salty things (crisps and crackers) and lemony things (proper lemonade) were things I tried that helped a bit.

Im sorry you’re dealing with this and I hope you feel better soon.

I had the same and really hated it. Spoke with my GP and got some anti sickness medicine to use when it was really bad (mainly at work!). I know some people have struggled when they're not vomiting loads but my GP was very helpful. It made a massive difference mentally even just knowing I had something I could take if needed!

Hello
Everyone. Update. 2 different sets of sickness tablets and still the same intact worse now to the point I cannot cook food I can't even think about it because I gip. I'm so fed up I don't know what else to do.
The tablets just make me sleep all day to the point I feel shocking when I wake up because of sleeping all day☹️

Sorry you are feeling like this. It sounds like you have hyperemesis, join the Facebook groups if you have Facebook as there’s a lot of women going through the same thing and it makes you feel so much less alone! Also pregnancy sickness support - contact them for help they have loads of advice and can match you with a peer supporter who are invaluable and have been through the same
I am 39 weeks and have struggled with the nausea throughout, it’s got more manageable as the pregnancy has progressed but the nausea is really rubbish and makes you so miserable.
things will get better, it’s survival mode in those first few months and it can take you to dark places, I have never cried so much in my life!
Ondansetron was the best help for me in the end, didn’t get rid but I was able to get out of bed and shower with it!
hope you get some relief soon, it really is the worst condition ever

rahrsh · 10/11/2023 06:39

@Yarnle hello, yes the doctors have said I have HG. I'm so fed up my anxiety towards going to sleep at night and going on the school runs is awful I've never had a pregnancy like this! I'll be sure to go on the Facebook website thankyou

@rahrsh it really is the most miserable condition ever. But know that you are not alone and all your feeling are valid! I have been housebound for the majority of this pregnancy and have lived in my pyjamas, cannot wait to give birth!

hotcandle · 10/11/2023 16:41

You're going to think I'm mental but sniffing high alcohol hand sanitizer helps with nausea.

Please don't do it without speaking to a medical professional but it carried me through having COVID.

It was amazing.

rahrsh · 10/11/2023 16:53

It's seriously nothing I've ever experienced before honestly I see why people are put off having more kids 😂, I have serious anxiety towards being sick it's my worst fear and it's getting harder to take my kids to school and get on public transport lately my heart races

@hotcandle I will ask my midwife. Where do I get these from?

Hi, I had horrendous nausea and sickness from week 6 to 13. I tried 4 different anti sickness meds and the only one that made a difference was xonvea. I think it depends what area you're in as to weather you'll get prescribed it as its very expensive apparently. It's the only one that's actually licensed for use in pregnancy. I'm still taking it now at 17 weeks as if I miss even one dose I start feeling very sick again. But it got soooo much better for me at 14 weeks, I know that will feel ages away to you now but it honestly does pass eventually. You have my full sympathy, I honestly don't know how I survived those weeks! x

rahrsh · 14/11/2023 09:08

Nearly week 11 still severely nauseous to the point I'm getting depressed now as I can't keep up to my house struggle taking my kids to school and the nausea is not disturbing my sleep I'm so tired n drained doctors never have no appointments either

Yarnle · 14/11/2023 17:27

@rahrsh sorry you are suffering so much, you are going through the worst weeks in terms of peaks of hormones right now. Hopefully things will calm down in the next week. It’s so so hard. Are you managing to eat and drink? If you are dehydrated get yourself to hospital and they can administer medication the. Make sure the gp prescribes you some too. Keep trying to get an appointment with the GP and explain it’s pregnancy related.. they normally see you quite quick and can fit you in if you mention that!
it’s honestly the hardest thing to go through and your doing so well to get through each day

rahrsh · 22/11/2023 14:49

Update. Just had 12 week scan today , all is well baby is brilliant, sickness on the other hand is way worse it's turned into projectile vomite one after another to the point it's coming out my nose!(gross and uncomfortable!) 4th set of different tablets nothings worked yet. So fed up
