Pregnant + DVT + Running

Wanted to post my experience as I couldn’t find any info when it was happening to me. I’m 13 weeks pregnant and a runner. Got diagnosed with DVT at 8 weeks pregnant and really struggled with the idea of reduced mobility. There was no research online on how to continue being active in a safe way in those circumstances. I got put on daily heparin injections until the end of pregnancy, did a lot of reading, and talk to my gyno and haematologist. All agreed that once my clot cleared (confirmed by Doppler) and on regular injections, I could continue exercising as normal. I’m back to running now and couldn’t be happier. Just need to be careful not to fall because of increased risk of internal bleeding due to the injections. I hope this is helpful to sporty future mums x

Glad you’re back to normal exercise. Dd had multiple clots in her lungs and was never given any advice about not exercising. Maybe that’s different as I guess with dvt you don’t want it dislodging and going to the lungs. Hers were already there

@VisaWoes I found there's very little advice on exercise because it tends to affect older people mostly. Lung clots seem much more serious, though. Is your DD ok now? X

Kind of ok. She was only 21yo. No reason ever found for the clots. Wasn’t on the pill, no surgery, no flights, not overweight.

she’ll be on blood thinners for life. But she’s a bit rubbish about taking them. Then complains about chest pain again, turns out she hasn’t had any meds for a couple of weeks and refuses to go to a&e. 🤷🏻‍♀️🙈

There's no apparent reason sometimes 🤷🏻‍♀️ But she needs to take her meds regularly, my doctor says that's crucial. All should be ok otherwise x
