Back labour pains without being in labour?

I can't find anything on google so came here to see if anyone has ever experienced the same. It's been going on for 2 weeks and I'm absolutely miserable.

DC1 was born in 2018 and was back to back so all my labour pains were in my lower back and the worst pain I've ever felt. I've always likened it to how I imagine it would feel if someone was scraping away parts of my bones in my lower back Confused

I'm 32+4 and was at triage a couple of weeks ago for the same kind of pain and they were concerned about preterm labour. Thankfully my cervix is still high up and closed but I just don't understand why I'm having the same back labour pains as I did with my daughter, but am not actually in labour. It's nothing like the pregnancy back pain I've had up to this point, like muscular or anything it literally feels like the contractions I was getting in my previous labour Sad

Has anyone ever had this? I have braxton hicks and feel baby moving as normal etc but most nights this pain is also there and some nights it's like today where I'm in absolute agony. I had a scan 2 weeks ago and baby was lying back to back so I assume it's from this? But it's so, so painful. I'm really struggling to cope with it and the thought of possibly 7-8 more weeks of these constant pains is too much Sad

Have you been tested for a UTI?
Is your digestive system working normally
Could you have pulled a muscle in your back

If your pregnancy is fine, see if you can think of a non pregnancy reason for lower back pain

greyberry · 22/10/2023 01:43

@SeaToSki I had a midwife appt 2 days ago and it was put on my notes that there were leukocytes in my urine but no one said anything about it being a UTI so I'm not sure. Everything else is normal as far as I know, and still having the normal pregnancy aches and pains and muscle pain etc with these pains on top. The only time I ever experienced this type of pain was my early contractions last labour so that's what's really throwing me I think

I would go back to them and ask for a UTI test, even if its just to rule it out properly. You dont want to ignore those accidentally thinking that its something pregnancy related

Did they mention if baby was engaged? Mines was 4/5 & back to back, the pain was constant , like a broken tail bone.
I think he or she has turned now as not as bad. This started late 34 weeks

greyberry · 22/10/2023 10:11

@SeaToSki okay, thank you. I have an appt with my consultant tomorrow so will bring it up there

@LilmissCa a few weeks ago they said she was head down but wrote 3/5 on my notes so think that means her head was engaged? At my midwife appt the other day she said her head was a bit higher up but maybe if she's moving herself around that might be why the pain is worse every so often. Did you manage to find anything to ease it?

@greyberry I would def think that's what it is... baby engaged & back to back.
My hypnobirthing teacher gave me some exercises to do.. sitting in ball doing figure of 8s, (no bouncing til 37 wks) Childs pose in yoga, there is info on spinning babies website too (not just for breech babies)
I think that helped turned this baby. My lower back is still sore but now standard pregnancy soreness I think.
I permanently had a hot water bottle attached to my back, took paracetamol at night (didn't do much) hot shower running in back before bed.

LilmissCa · 22/10/2023 10:52

Yeah 3/5 is 3 fifths of their head engaged, mines is 4/5 at min. Altho I'm not sure if they've moved more down or back out to turn a bit

greyberry · 22/10/2023 19:05

@LilmissCa I got my ball out last night and have sat on it most of today, had a few hours without the pain but it's back now and worse than it was last night Sad got a hot water bottle now and going to be having a hot shower too. I've also found paracetamol doesn't touch it but the hospital said they would only give me a stronger painkiller if they admitted me which I don't really want to do if it's not medically necessary. Will have a look at spinning babies and try child's pose, thank you! Glad the pain has eased for you x
