All day sickness, snack suggestions please

Ok, so morning / all day sickness has struck big time.

Any suggestions to try as a snack? In the morning I seem to be ok, it is the afternoon and the evening that is horrible. It turns out that crackers are not infallible, and they were thrown up last night. Ginger seems to hurt and burn my stomach.

Nothing worse than being hungry/sick!

What is working for others that I can try?

Thanks for your help.

Antisickness tablets from the GP.

Granny Smith apples
Salt and vinegar crisps
Raisins

neleh87 · 21/10/2023 10:58

Rich tea biscuits and raw carrot sticks were my go-to.

flippyfloppy · 21/10/2023 11:02

Ahh I remember this time well, awful 😞. Salty things were my go-to, so crisps, olives and if really bad a portion of McDonald's salty French fries! My diet had never been worse than when I was pregnant as couldn't keep anything down.

wheatsheaf8 · 21/10/2023 11:02

White toast, heinz chicken soup

doeandfawn · 21/10/2023 11:04

Literally whatever you can keep down! I had awful sickness from 9-18 weeks and found the longer I went between eating the worse it would be so always had my safe foods by the bed.

Thank you! Great suggestions. Anything to try and keep that horrible bitter taste away…. Found I can just about tolerate cup of soup in the evenings but I get hungry again an hour later.

WeWereInParis - how are the anti sickness tablets working? Does it also treat the nausea or is it just the vomiting? The doctor suggested this yesterday, but I am so worried about side effects.

I second salty things and add cheese (cheddar)!

FirstTim3Mummy · 21/10/2023 13:01

Arrowroot biscuits

Sealover123 · 21/10/2023 18:09

Flatbread with houmous - been slowly nibbling away at that today

Just had some vegetable pho broth with noodles and my nausea went away! (I'm sure it will be back soon though 😉)

Sparkling water seems to settle my tummy despite the bubbles xxx

Sealover123 · 21/10/2023 18:11

Small bowl of oatmeal with milk

Whole wheat toast with butter

Warm glass of milk with vanilla

I was prescribed anti sickness medication this week and I’m feeling so much better. I wasn’t able to leave the house due to nausea and vomiting throughout the day but finally feeling human again!

CCrowe · 22/10/2023 00:01

I find refreshing fruit like raspberries and grapes helpful.

Also thin white bread toast with butter or sipping a small amount of fruit juice.

Like others have said, I find eating something really helps with the sickness so I eat often.

Good luck!

Alloveragain3 · 22/10/2023 00:50

I could only stomach pasta, noodles, mcdonalds chips/nuggets, ribena and apples for a couple of weeks.

On one occasion, I forced myself to eat a small salad and promptly vomited it back up.

I'm grateful at 36 weeks I can now eat ALL THE FOOD.

This too shall pass!

Salt and vinegar crisps that are so strong your eyeballs sweat, with a side of Diet Coke that's as cold as possible without being actually frozen.

Or pasta with melted butter if that's too much!

Orangesquashed · 22/10/2023 06:04

I found sucking on a sweet really helps!

Calphurnia · 22/10/2023 06:14

First pregnancy wasn't too bad. Chocolate milk helped

Second pregnancy was awful! I could manage skips crisps, tinned tomato soup and folded over cheese spread sandwiches on white bread. With the odd pot noodle. Fun times!

Hope you feel better

MoonlightMuse · 22/10/2023 06:41

I couldn’t have anything hot during pregnancy because of HG. Fresh orange juice or yogurt ice lollies were great for hydration.

MaverickSnoopy · 22/10/2023 07:27

In my experience, whatever I fancied I could hold down. Usually something carby. Cheese puffs worked well for me.

lorisparkle · 22/10/2023 07:39

I lived on lemonade, salt and vinegar Pringles and polos in the early stages of pregnancy.

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 22/10/2023 08:55

If you can't stomach ginger, my dfriend sniffed ginger teabags, dry not wet, think she said they were ginger and lime

asleep · 22/10/2023 09:10

Regular Coke

HopeAndStrength · 22/10/2023 09:12

Fruit was my go to, particularly satsumas and strawberries.
An ice lolly like a Calippo was also good for my nausea.

Pip1402 · 22/10/2023 09:18

I found my nausea got worse as the day went on and it seemed that tiredness made a big difference. If there's any way you can squeeze in a lunchtime nap that may help. Food-wise I found fresh fruit like pineapple and mango good. And sucked on extra strong mints to try to mask the horrible taste in my mouth!

beckyCarlos · 22/10/2023 09:25

I had a few on rotation - crackers (dry, with butter, or with Philly), salty tortilla chips, milk loaf (dry bread, with philly, or toasted with butter), crumpets, fir something a bit sweeter once the savoury was too much plain digestives, and surprisingly Cadburys Dairy Milk (hadnt eaten it for years, but the milk seemed to soothe my tummy, a square every hour sometimes did the trick!)

It was all about intervals for me, at the start of the day I could get away with an hour and and a half, maybe two, without a snack and it got less and less time between (never much though, literally just maybe 4 crisps, or one crumpet), an afternoon nap definitely helped (but then again sleep in general as it was the only time I didnt feel sick!) About 10 weeks I remembered chewing gum, and that was a godsend for getting rid of any taste x

Momo88 · 22/10/2023 09:34

Cheese sticks were a good option for me. They're quite filling and don't smell much. Good luck! It sucks but it'll pass x
