Pregnant and travel to Singapore?

Hi, we are relocating from UK to Australia, I’ll be around 30 weeks pregnant at the time of travel and wanted to break up the long haul flight and have a few days rest (3 nights) in Singapore. I mentioned this to my doctor about 8 weeks ago and she said she thought it was a good idea. We’ve now booked the flights but I have panicked googled last night and saw there is a risk of Zika in this country. Has anyone travelled here when pregnant? Wondering if I should reschedule flight and not stopover any nights in Singapore and go straight to Aus. Any advice would be great!

Singapore is super clean and nice. Book a posh hotel. In Asia probs the cleanest place. Otherwise 5 star in Dubai. Just rest, maybe get a hotel in a mall? however… make sure you have great insurance

I used to live in Singapore, it’s absolutely fine. We (as expats) would always chuckle at tourists lathering on mosquito repellent as they literally fumigate the streets. It’s called mosquito fogging. Whatever vaccines they recommend for travel there I wouldn’t bother with either. It’s the cleanest and safest place I’ve ever lived. I used to leave my bag (with wallet and phone) on the table to go to the loo and it never went missing. Key point to note if you’re pregnant, many restaurants don’t have their own loo so can be a little walk away.

I didn't travel to Singapore when pregnant, but when I did go I can say I didn't get a single mosquito bite (and I'm apparently very attractive to the buggers, I'm usually the first to be bit). Tbh it didn't cross my mind that there would be mosquito in the city so I wasn't wearing any insect repellent or making any effort to not be bit. DH didn't get bit either.

Medically as well you'd be in great hands in Singapore in case you needed anything looked at for any reason.

I didn't travel there when pregnant but I have been a few times and have never been bitten by a mosquito (even though they absolutely adore me when I am anywhere with mosquitoes!). Singapore is the one of the cleanest places on earth and a great choice for you to rest for a few days. I loved this place every time I went. And as someone mentioned above, medically you will indeed be in a great place!

I'm not sure why everyone is talking about how clean it is - that's not relevant to mosquitoes!

OP, only you can make the risk assessment. I looked at the link on the FCO website to see the risk level for each country re Zika - from memory everywhere was either low or no risk. For one night only you might think that it's going to be a tiny risk statistically that you would be bitten by a Zika-carrying mosquito in a centrally located hotel, but you can take precautions with long trousers and sleeves, and (pregnancy-safe) repellent.

Sorry - you said 3 nights. Same principle applies! Safe travels
