Travel insurance

We booked a holiday to Rome for a weekend before we found out we were pregnant. I will be 31 weeks at the time, happy to fly etc. I have had slight spotting after intercourse at 15 weeks and told it was likely a cervical ectropion. It was short lived and had a scan after, baby all wriggling about. My question is do I need to declare this on my travel insurance as it’s not technical a treatable medical issue and not really ongoing (nothing since) . If I choose the only bleeding in pregnancy option on my insurance it bumps my claim into the £300 mark. I don’t know if this counts towards bleeding as it wasn’t full bleeding. I want to make sure I’m covered but also would love to avoid any unnecessary expenses if possible 🙈

Anything you don't declare, however small will be used as a reason not to pay out should you need to make a claim

If you sought medical advice, tests or treatment you really need to declare it

Obviously I am aware of things making insurance void, which I most definitely don’t want to do… I guess I was more questioning whether this will be a separate issue that I would need to declare to someone directly in order to get the best price? Just seems crazy to be classed as bleeding in pregnancy which can be anywhere from light spotting to placenta issues. Seems like a one box ticks all situation online. Hoping someone has experienced this also 😩

Yes you need to declare it, if you can't afford the premium, don't go. Make sure your policy covers NICU if you give birth prematurely abroad.

Phone the insurer and ask them. It may be that it doesn't count as bleeding in pregnancy from an increased premiums point of view given no further treatment was necessary.

What you can't do is choose not to mention it. Given it's on your medical notes that you sought help for it. If something did happen while you're away, as pp has said, it could invalidate your whole policy.

Thank you, of course I will pay what is necessary. I just didn’t want to be paying for something that wasn’t. As there was only the one option I was unsure if I had any other options, I will call and speak to someone. To be honest I just wanted others experiences, I’ve never travelled abroad whilst pregnant and also never had bleeding in pregnancy up until this pregnancy. It’s all new to me.

Hello! What did you end up doing here? I’m in a similar situation. Thanks so much!

Amf2508 · 19/05/2025 08:17

@Lb123456so we managed to find insurance for around £140 which we just went for… I had quite a few issues towards the end of my pregnancy (from 35 weeks onwards) so will always just cover myself if it was to happen in future. Better to pay £140 than thousands! Hope this helps!

Thanks so much - did you declare cervical erosion/do you mind me asking who you used? I’m 26 weeks with cervical erosion which has caused on/off bleeding throughout second trimester, flying next week. Want to make sure covered! Thank you 🙏
