Sick Season 4 GIF by Friends

So I know that there will always be the risk that I feel like rubbish the whole pregnancy, but for those who got through Morning Sickness - do you get to the point where you can actually concentrate on something other than feeling sick?

I am struggling to even think this pregnancy will happen because I spend my entire days eating and napping and trying not to be sick. Do you get even a little bit of "Normal" back before Baby comes? Right now my brain is mush, I can't even plan tomorrow, let alone maternity leave, baby rooms, buggies etc 😂

Yes, the second trimester was like night and day compared to the first. Nausea lifted at about 13 weeks and thankfully hasn’t come back (now 39 weeks).

Some women get nausea throughout, but for most it goes. The first trimester for me was just about survival. I ate what I could and slept a lot. If you’ve still got nausea and sickness well into the second trimester contact your doctor/midwife though, as they can prescribe something.

How many weeks are you? I was at my worst between six and twelve weeks when it gradually eased off. It's utterly miserable isn't it? You have my sympathies. Fourteen weeks + and had enthusiasm and energy.

I am 9w going on 10w. Just having one of those days where I can't imagine even thinking about buying a pram! I am seeing all these ads on Instagram and just think. HOW CAN PEOPLE CONCENTRATE ON THIS?!!?!?! 😅

I only started to function after 20 weeks, I had a dip at 25 but have been fine since and managed to really enjoy the rest of my pregnancy (to the point I almost don’t remember the sickness). I really hope you start to feel better soon.

So good to hear - I feel I am moving into a bit of a routine to manage it, but honestly - if I am like this the whole way through, the baby will have no bed, clothes, toys, food, pram anything. It will have to wait until I don't feel sick hahah

My brain can only focus on not being sick haha.

Sending hugs OP. You probably don't want to hear this.
First pregnancy, 18 weeks it miraculously went and felt absolutely top of the world the rest of the time.
Second pregnancy, felt like utter s**te the entire pregnancy, literally still throwing up in labour.
It's hard going, It felt like having a severe hangover every day for 35 weeks! I felt cheated that no-one had prepared me for how bad it was. I remember telling my best friend I was pregnant and instead of being happy, just crying because I felt so rubbish 😩
The time passes quicker than you expect though and soon it's a distant memory and I promise it's so worth it.

Alloveragain3 · 18/10/2023 15:02

Mine started at 6 weeks, peaked at 10 weeks and was fully gone by 16 weeks.

Hopefully you'll start feeling better soon!

16-17 weeks was the magic number for me with my pregnancies, it's horrific isn't it. Make sure you're not anaemic too, that makes you feel so much worse.

No, you don't need to yet! You have ages! Fingers crossed it's normal sickness and will be gone for the second trimester. I am glad I had my children 30 years ago as there wasn't all the Instagram and online pressure. I was good for nothing for the the first trimester but then worked till my due date. In my experience early pregnancy was by far the worst part of the whole thing. I hope you are able to rest up a lot xx

I have suffered three miscarriages previously, so this is a huge blessing. But this magical time is kicking my butt. Glad to hear that it's not always forever, would love to not need a snack at 1am❤

Urgh god you have my sympathy!! I’m 8+4 and all my energy is spent concentrating on not puking. I feel nauseous all day long. I’d honestly rather just be sick in the morning and it be done with than feel like this. I’ve been prescribed cyclizine to help, work don’t know I’m pregnant and I’ve got to work at head office next week. I won’t get through it without medication!

Yarnle · 18/10/2023 16:55

It is literally survival mode at that point. I cried every day and spent 99% of my time in bed, couldn’t move, couldn’t shower, couldn’t eat properly (but I have HG - extreme end of the pregnancy sickness scale!)
Unfortunately I’ve suffered all the way through with nausea(currently 36 weeks) but I can say that the intensity has significantly improved from those early days so I can now do semi normal things. Like you i couldn’t even look at baby things in the beginning as it made me feel even more sick 🤢. Definitely get in contact with your GP if it’s stopping you from functioning as there are safe medications they can prescribe which may or may not help (i was willing to try ANYTHING and did). Hope it clears up soon for you! I am a rare case so there’s more chance than not that you will get relief soon!

hopefulmum46 · 19/10/2023 08:23

Are you on any medication? If not, I would strongly recommend speaking to your GP about it. I was really bad at 8-11 weeks, ended up in hospital at one point. I'm now 15 weeks and the nausea is reasonably well controlled with two different medications so I can actually function. I dread to think what I'd be like without the drugs though, whenever I delay a dose or try to reduce the dose I know about it!

Hope you feel better soon

bettynutkins · 19/10/2023 08:33

I was bad with my 2nd from about 5 weeks. It went around 13 weeks and then was fine from then.

I feel your pain - I have two trips abroad with work and have no idea how I can stay up past 7:30pm!!

So glad it's not just me looking at baby things! hahah. How insane that the one thing we want and can't wait for, I literally can't think about 😂

When I have an opinion on a car seat, I will know I am past the sickness.
