Anyone had sacro illiac joint problems? Maternity belt recommendations?

I've had sacro-illiac joint problems for a couple of weeks. Had a couple of osteopath appointments, which really helped. Then undid all the osteopath work at pregnancy yoga (so won't be doing that again!)

Going back to see my osteopath next week, but am also thinking of getting a maternity belt and was wondering what type might work best? There's so many different types around, I have no idea what is most likely to work.

Most of my pregnancy tops are really fitted so I don't want it to show through my clothes. Can't buy a whole new pregnancy wardrobe as I only have 9 weeks to go!

Any advice?

I have chronic problems with my SI joints - triggered by pregnancy

I also used a serola - provided by physio

I also now (post pregnancy) use one which I got sent over from America as it actually does more than just queeze your hips together. It has a very complicated series of string pulls but is fantastic but don't know that it would work with a baby bump.

Get a referral to a physio - should be immediate at this stage in your pregnancy.

Thanks for the advice. Am seeing my GP this week so will ask for a physio referral

I have had a referral for obstetric physio via my midwife it was much quicker than anything I have had via the GP

Hi, I also have this problem (I'm 25 weeks pg) but have been advised against a belt during pg cos of the pressure it can put on the baby. My dh's physio said her daughter had a belt which made her baby move into breech position and she ended up having a c-section cos he wouldn't move back!

I have been referred for physio and also intend to look for a qualified obs osteopath cos I've heard this is the best bet.

best wishes

Serola Belts can be bought privately from a company called Landsker Biomechanics for about £30. Nothing more than a belt worn around the hips to stop your SI joints deviating. B4 buying, try out with your dressing gown cord or similar. Tie so its around the hip joints & below the 2 bumpy bits at the back of your pelvis, just above butt cheeks. If this is a relief - buy the belt. Will not be a problem under your clothes. I have longstanding back problem & under physio care for years, but my physio dept does not supply these belts directly (need further referral). Thankfully my SI joints OK at mo, any probs & I will buy privately. Can be some reluctance to treat/prescribe by physios during pregnancy - too many people sueing I think, so make sure you ask for advice as well.

You can also try Maternity Belt, they have a great Sacroiliac Belt specifically designed for SPD.
