Hey lovelies I'm having a sweep done at 38+2 and then induction at 39 weeks... I'm just wondering if anyone has any positive story's as I'm shitting myself lol . Hoping this sweep works as I know baby's engaged but idk about my cervix being soft or whatever. But does anyone have an experience of havinf a sweep done at 38weeks and it worked ? Or worked in favour of the induction like helped things go a lot smoother

Helloo! Hopefully this may give you a little bit of reassurance 🤍
When I was pregnant with my first baby I went into hospital a couple of times during my 37th week with reduced movements so in the end they decided they wanted to induce me, I wasn’t pleased as induction was the last thing I wanted as I’d only really ever heard negatives, but knew it was in baby’s best interest so was happy to go ahead. The doctor was amazing and spent ages with me going through each induction method and what they might use, how it would happen etc. but he said we’ll give you a sweep first just to see if it starts anything but as it’s your first baby and you’re only 37/38 weeks it probably won’t work, might be really painful etc. They even offered me gas and air!! I was like if I can’t have a SWEEP without using g&a how on earth am I going to get through labour?! 😂 The doctor went out of the room and the midwife carried out the sweep. Was absolutely fine, no more painful than a normal examination and I am a wimp! We used to joke about how would I get through labour cos I stub my toe and I’m in a body bag lol. I was like what were they working that up for it was fine!!! Well I will never ever forget the shock on the doctors face when he came back in and the midwife told him I was already 3cm dilated! 😂 Unfortunately it didn’t really seem to do anything in the way of speeding up things as I had to go in 2 days later to have my waters broken at 7:30am but by 5:00pm that night my baby girl was here and my labour was totally fine. Like I was scared my whole pregnancy for the birth, but I honestly loved it and was way less painful than I expected. When people ask me what it was like I just say it was hard work like lifting weights at the gym 🤣x

What is the reason for inducing you so early?

I had a sweep with my third which was pain free and worked to induce labour but I was 42 weeks so baby was probably very ready lol.

I loved my induction! So much I requested one for my second and was really pleased to have one.

I think they are great personally. Everything is in hospital from the start so it's all so controlled, and everything happened slowly so I didn't feel overwhelmed from one stage to the next. It was a couple of days from the pessary to the birth. But the birth itself I had an epidural for so I slept through most of it and there wasn't much pain. I watched a lot of tv for most of the time in hospital with some time bouncing on a birthing ball listening to music when the contractions ramped up a bit.

I appreciated being in hospital for my waters breaking as for my second my waters broke at home and I hated how messy that was.
