Flu jab in first trimester

I’m currently 7 weeks pregnant. I’m in an at risk group because I take immunosuppressants for IBD and annually get offered a free flu jab, some tears I have it, some I don’t get round to it.

My Children are both having the nasal spray flu vaccine at school this week, which prompted me to book mine, however I’m not sure how comfortable I feel about it.

I’m in no way ‘anti-vax’ I just feel like it’s so early on and I don’t want to medal with the baby at such an early stage.

I’m pretty sure I had it with my previous pregnancies, but they were both winter babies and I would have been given in much further along than I am now.

I’m just curious to know if anyone else had/or is having theirs in the first trimester, the nurse has said it’s really up to me!

Thanks

I’m waiting till 12 weeks before getting mine so another week to go for me. Only because I don’t want to feel nausea at the same time as getting after effects from the flu (i’m miserable and grumpy enough as it is haha)

From the point of view of embryonic/fetal development I reckon this will have been tested to death in clinical trials. Guidelines are so incredibly stringent about what is ‘safe’ for pregnant women and they’re always really cautious (sometimes over cautious) when it comes to medicines and treatments, I’d be really surprised if this hadnt been tested on huge numbers of pregnant women.

I had my flu and covid booster on Friday- I'm ten weeks- no side effects. I didn't fancy flu whilst pregnant and caring for a toddler... and there's a lot of covid going around, and unfortunately infections have been linked with miscarriage and stillbirths. So on balance I decided to go for it, but it's an individual choice. I should add I'm also medically compromised and a frontline healthcare worker- so risks are higher for me.

I had mine at seven weeks, was totally fine.

I had my flu jab at the weekend at 11 weeks. Totally fine. No side effects. The flu jab isn't a live virus jab so it doesn't give you a mild dose of the flu. Sore arm for the day but all is now well. X
