With people who have already babies the midwives appointments are much more relaxed. Most first timers get booked in around 12 weeks, so I wouldn't have thought the set up you've said is that unusual. If you want to see someone earlier for peace of mind, try your GP or EPU.

Congrats BTW

hi
i have experienced something similar my MW saw me at 10 weeks last time but when I rang up the docs today they said that i will be doc led until 26 weeks????

not sure if this is right i am going to call again later and see if i get a different receptionist!!!

my friends on their second have had similar experiences - NHS cutbacks!!!

For both my pregnancies I saw a MW for the first time after my 12 week scan.

Think it depends on the area here in Bristol you see the midwife first at about 9-11 weeks and she books you in then orders your dating scan (don't think all areas do one) at what ever hospital you choose (we more or less have a choice of 3) and that is if it is your 1st or any subsequent pregnancies. One of my best friends however is in Bucks and at 17 weeks had not seen a midwife and as she was having problems she really needed one and that was because the one attached to the practice had left and they had not been able to replace her So glad I am where I am I would have been lost without mine she has been amazingly supportive.

Had my booking in appt around 13/14 weeks this time compared with 11 weeks first time. Had 6 weekly appts with the GP until 2 weeks ago when I was admitted to hospital as they thought I was going into labour early (26 weeks).

Asked them when I should next see the MW, they said a week later. Couldn't get an appt so phoned today on the off chance there would be one next week. Was told to go to the ANC for blood tests (28 weeks today) and to explain to the MW what had happened and get checked over.

MW huffing and puffing and generally moaning because it was blood test day and "I don't usually do ante natal checks on blood test days. Best I can do is listen to the baby's heartbeat." I must've pulled a face, because the next thing I know, she is stuffing a pot under my nose and telling me to give her a sample. She did all the necessary checks and everything is fine, but I just thought her whole attitude was a bit much. She then went on to say that I was a low risk case (thank God) and that I don't have to see anyone until I am 33 weeks because I am "an old pro" . I've had one baby 4 years ago and the proceudre has changed loads since then...

God all these stories I am really beginning to realise how lucky I am with both my Midwife (she is in a group so if she is not around I can see or speak to any of the 4 others who look after different GP practices in the area)

Pretty normal -- first pregnancy I had my booking in appointment a few days after my first scan, and this time round it was a few days beforehand.

both times I only saw a MW after the 1st scan
