Pregnancy sac but no yolk or heartbeat

Hi all, I’m just after some advice and to see if anyone has ever been in the same situation as me as I’m really confused/ upset. I found out I was pregnant almost a month ago. I then went to the early pregnancy unit for an internal scan as I had some light spotting and was worried. They then told me they could see the pregnancy sac but couldn’t see a baby or yolk - they put this down to the fact that the scan was done too early so they told me to come back for another one in two weeks. Within that two weeks I continued to have very light spotting on some days, on and off. I have today gone back for my second internal scan and was it wasn’t great news. They said they can still only see the pregnancy sac, no yolk or heartbeat which is unusual as I should be 7-8 weeks now. The nurse I spoke to then said she thinks it’s a miscarriage but she can’t confirm it yet as there has been a small amount of growth over the last 2 weeks - just not as much growth as they would expect. So I need to go back again in another two weeks and if there still hasn’t been any growth or just only a small amount of growth, then that’s when they can confirm it’s a miscarriage. This is obviously very upsetting news but I’m also confused as I’m still getting pregnancy symptoms. My breasts are still very sore, I have frequent nausea and a bitter taste in my mouth, and I still at times get cramps which I’m told are the cramps you get when your uterus is expanding. So it’s left me confused as the nurse told me the pregnancy probably stopped progressing at about 4 weeks, so should I not have stopped having pregnancy symptoms? I would just really appreciate some advice and to see whether anyone else has been through this same experience.

I'm so sorry to hear this, I know it must be hugely stressful and upsetting for you.

I'm afraid my story wasn't good news.

I had lots of symptoms and no sign of miscarriage but when I went for an 8 week scan, the pregnancy had stopped developing at about 5-6 weeks.

I knew my dates were right so didn't hold out much hope and a scan 10 days later confirmed it was a missed miscarriage.

I still had signs for several weeks after x

I’m so sorry to hear about your experience. Thank you so much for responding to me so quickly - it’s given me abit more clarification and understanding that this is something that can happen. I hope all is well with you and wish you the best of luck with your future pregnancy x

Sorry that you're going through this. I'm afraid it can take a while for your body to realise the pregnancy is not progressing - I went for my first scan at 13 weeks and was told it looked like a 5 week pregnancy. No sign that anything was wrong, like you I still had nausea, exhaustion etc so had assumed everything was fine.

Sorry you are going through this.

I previously had a blighted ovum which was similar to this (could only see a sac)
My hcg continued to rise till my d&c. I never had any bleeding and my body just did not realise.

It's truly upsetting x thoughts with you x

Thank you so much for your response and sorry to hear you found this out at 13 weeks. Do you mind me asking whether your body released the pregnancy naturally, or if you had to be given a pill or go through a surgical process? X

Hi, thank you so much for your response. Yes it’s very upsetting, but also good to know that this is something that’s quite common as I had never heard of this. I hope all is well with you and wish you all the best in your future pregnancy x
