Hey! I'm 4 weeks 6 days, first time pregnant after 3 years trying and a failed ICSI. I just want to check tonight I'm having really bad back pain. Just came on me, I'm hoping this is normal.

Thanks in advance

Congrats! A simple google search would have told you this is very normal.

I had the exact same at around 5 weeks; seemingly very common!

I'm 17 weeks atm and I had awful back pain. Then I had period pains too but they've eased off now

You'll soon have your first scan and that'll put your mind at rest Flowers

I had terrible back pain early on and a lot of menstrual-style cramping for the first two months. I think it's just your body adjusting and muscles getting ready. Your body also releases hormones that relax the muscles, so they're more susceptible to aches and pains. If you have any concerns speak with your GP (unless already under maternity care?). If you have any abdominal or shoulder pain call 111 asap as this can be quite dangerous.

P.s. you can also get a private early reassurance scan from approx. 6 weeks - they're about £50-£60 at most private clinics but can help put your mind at rest if you're really struggling. I had one as I'd had two miscarriages earlier in the year and our first NHS scan wasn't until 12 weeks.
