hello
when i gave birth to my first i had to have a forceps delivery as i had had an epicural and didn't know how to push

anyway afterwards (completely unknown to me) they had to remove the placenta manually because the doctor snapped the cord.

What is scary is that noone told me that this had happened and my GP brought it up in passing about 8 weeks later !!!!!!!

i am pregnant again and I am VERY anxious about this happening again.
does anyone have any experience with this?

Not sure why the cord snapped (perhaps the doc just pulled too hard??)
and i am not sure if i had the injection, sorry to be vague but i am just so angry that noone told me anything at the time to explain why/how it happened anything on this would be gratefully received.

I wonder if you can get hold of your hospital notes and find out exactly what happened? I have heard of the cord snapping before, it does happen. I'm not sure why.

yeah i don't know what happened to my notes
it wouldn't surprise me if they were a bit heavy handed (lots of gripes about my birth!)

would i be able to get them from my MW ? i have not been for my booking in appt yet -

Hi gem
I would just ask the quections to either doctor or midwife, ask if they can explain what happened, if it is a problem, an what are the chances of it happening again. if they can't give you an answer ask for an appontment with your consultant because you are concerned about it.
hope all goes well, when is the baby due?

not due till october but what happened last time has affected me big time - just not knowing why it happened or how serious / normal this nort of thing is.

to be honest i feel a bit let down by the delivery team for not letting me know at the time.

but on the other hand did they not tell me because it was a marginal issue? ie not that serious to bother me with?

this is what i am finding the most frustrating.

you can get a copy of your hospital notes, i did so when i had my son. you just need to write to the hospital stating your name dates etc and hospital number, they charge you for them- i payed £10 (7 years ago). It is unlikely to happen again but to clarify what happened in your mind i would suggest getting hold of your notes.

chops - could you understand what was written in them? It often needs a medical person to decipher them.

But there are plenty of people on MN to decipher the words as long as you can read the handwriting....

gem,
I had a dreadful first delivery, with many problems, and was very worried 2nd time around, am also hospital phobic and can have panic attacks (normally a reasonably rationale person!) I made an appt with consultant to discuss issue as I didn't want to spend the whole pregnancy worrying. Think about the questions you have and write them down, and don't worry if they sound silly, just ask them.
