Hello - first time posting and first pregnancy (7+2). Since learning I was pregnant I've been taking pregnacare but it's making me feel awful. Does anyone have any recommendations for different folic acid supplements which might have less side effects please?

Thank you

What about just plain folic acid? From Boots for example. Congrats on your pregnancy, I’m 7+3 😊

Congrats!!! I too was going to suggest just plain folic acid. Unless your diet is very lacking, majority of the vitamins in multi type supplements goes down the loo!

Note, that if you have a larger BMI, (not saying you do) its recommended to take the prescribed 5mg dose, not the OTC 400mcg dose. I only mentioned it because we TTC 13yrs, and although only overweight at the very end, not one GP or consultant ever mentioned it!

Folic acid and vitamin d is all that's recommended to take

Hi @ClrDvs
Agree with post above hun, i take folic acid and vitamin D during pregnancy. I also take an iron supplement to keep my levels up, i'm vegetarian.
Congratulations on your pregnancy x

I had pregnacare in my previous too and it did cause nausea if take. On an empty stomach, this time I went for proceive, apparently it is absorbed better than pregnacare, and had no nausea from it and no drop in iron this time either

Thanks everyone - I think I'll give just folic and vit d a try 😊 xx

You no longer need folic acid. It matters in the first 27 days after conception when the neural tube forms and closes. It will be closed between day 23-27, so if you are 7 weeks pregnant you don’t need to worry about it.
Eating a healthy diet matter for brain development so focus on a lot of plants, omega 3 rich foods, and don’t overdo the fats.

Folic acid is recommended in the 1st trimester I.e. the 1st 12 weeks

Many people unknowingly are intolerant of folic acid. Look into natural folate instead.
