Elective C-section… If all goes well, how soon after could I be discharged?

Is there a minimum amount of time I’d need to stay in hospital?

What was your experience if you had a C-section with no complications?

I feel so anxious and nauseous just thinking about staying on a ward/bay with other people and their babies after C-section.

I went home next day, couldn't wait to be out of there!

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 10/10/2023 19:20

Usually 24hrs

TerrazzoChips · 10/10/2023 19:20

I delivered at about 8pm and was dish charged the following afternoon. Stayed between 20-21hrs.

I had my section at 10am Friday and was out by 11pm Saturday. We would have escaped earlier if Paediatrics hadn't forgotten to do little ones checks earlier

Day 2 is normal with day 1 being the day of surgery.

DD was born late evening and I went home the next morning.

You are usually in a baby bubble afterwards, can keep curtains around your bed and you're all in the same boat. I loved it second time round. I felt like I was in a real cocoon, just me and DS.

Within 24 hours.

I had my section 9am Friday and was home around tea time on the Saturday. Would have been earlier but I was waiting on results of blood test for baby.

Frazzledandfried · 10/10/2023 19:28

I was on my way home at bang on 24 hours with both my c sections.
Ask to be on the morning list, preferably first on the list if you can.
As soon as you start to feel your legs coming back to life get those toes wiggling and get moving. If you can get yourself up and about in good time you'll be able to have your catheter out that evening, then drink tonnes so that you can go for a wee easily. Then in the morning get up and get moving, have a shower and you'll be good to go.
That's what happened with both mine. Let the staff know that you're pretty determined to get home ASAP if it's possible and safe for you and baby and they'll do their best to help you. Good luck!

I had emergency c-section on Tuesday night and they were ready to send me home from Thursday morning. I refused until Friday evening.

Happygerbil · 10/10/2023 19:47

I stayed in 2 nights after both of my sections - one emergency and one elective, but many women go home the day after. I was in no hurry.

Porridgeislife · 10/10/2023 19:51

I had mine at 10am and was ready to go home by 3pm the next day.

Also you can ask to be early on the list but they tend to reserve those spots for women who have gestational diabetes and can’t fast for too long.

I was ready to go home the next day but the baby wouldn’t drink enough so we had to stay an extra night because of that but I was fine the following day
