2nd miscarriage in 5 years

I'm 40, have a DS aged 17.
I've miscarried twice in 5 years at about 8 weeks. Both times the cramps and eventual loss of pregnancy came on after a strenuous workout. I know researchers say there's no correlation to stress but the experience is shattering and I'm left wondering whether I caused them. And what I can do to avoid it happening again as I would love to have another child with this guy.

Hi @EgoBekee,
I had 2 miscarriages in a year; Unfortunately they won’t do any tests until you miscarry 3 times so we had said if we got to 4 miscarriages we would go for IVF. Luckily it was 3 times the charm and I now I’m happily 34weeks pregnant and age 38.
A repro specialist I spoke to said that he believed miscarriages were your body/womb’s way of priming itself.
It’s most likely you did absolutely nothing to cause your miscarriages but when it happens it can be hard not to look for patterns. If you see a strenuous workout as one, perhaps avoid doing so in those early weeks, if you get pregnant again. I had a nurse who told me she miscarried after the gym and swore off exercise to have her child whereas others will run up until their 30-somethingeth week of pregnancy!
What I did differently was take high dose folic acid 5mg per day for 3 month before conception and low dose aspirin daily. I had already stopped drinking because of the earlier preganancies/losses. I also had blood tests done by the GP for antiphospholipid syndrome which you can request and mine were thankfully negative. I’ll never know if these things made a difference but there is strong evidence that they can help in some women and perhaps I’m one of them.
I know how heartbreaking it can be and stressful but you need to do your best to relax and get your body and mind in the best place for carrying a baby.
Hope this helps and best of luck.
