Best bottles for breast fed babies?

Lillybobs86 · 10/10/2023 15:14

I was told the Madela bottles were best for breastfed babies as shape so similar to the breast but after googling every brand seems to promote this 🙈
Anyone with first hand experience which brand is best for breast fed babies?
Thank you x

I spent hundreds trying to find one that either of my kids would accept and failed. A lot of it is just gimmicks, I'm afraid.

Summermeadowflowers · 10/10/2023 15:34

I saw a lactation consultant when struggling with breastfeeding dd and she recommended MAM bottles.

Allthorpe100 · 10/10/2023 15:35

I liked MAM bottles, baby also liked them. Had tommee tipee before hand and they were crap

Cdoc · 10/10/2023 16:26

@SockQueen unfortunately I agree and had the same experience. I know every baby is different but my little one is 7 months now and has never taken a bottle or a dummy.

ohpoowhatnow · 10/10/2023 16:31

We tried all the bottles under the sun and she never took to them, I think that can happen.

Torganer · 10/10/2023 16:45

Mam, tommee tippee, and Dr Brown all worked for us. They were a hungry baby so would take anything! We introduced bottles very early, so not sure if that helped too.

Juicyjuicymango · 10/10/2023 20:33

It must really depend on the baby - DD took a tommee tippee absolutely fine.

QueenFree · 10/10/2023 20:41

We used tommee tippee and still do. DS wouldn't take to anything else. Also use tommee tippee for dummies.

OopsieeDaisy · 10/10/2023 22:15

Mam bottles worked for us but only after a fair bit of perseverance, although it was the only one DC would even remotely tolerate to begin with!

olderthanyouthink · 10/10/2023 22:20

Lansinoh was the best we tried, still not great. Man was meh and avent natural was a hard no

How early is very early? Planning on combo feeding but don’t know when is best to start that won’t disrupt establishing breast feeding.

FizzyFlamingo · 10/10/2023 22:50

I think it just depends on baby. My daughter took any bottle. We didn't use them very often but she never had any issues taking any bottle offered to her. We mostly used mam but we also had other branded ones. Saying that she also wasn't fussy with what dummy she was given either so I think it was more luck and her not having much preference 😄. I also hesitated on giving both a dummy and bottle as I worried about impact it would have on breastfeeding but no issues at all and I plan to do the same this time around - just worry less and hope we're lucky again as I think it is very baby dependent.

In the first week we introduced a bottle. Combi feeding worked well for us,

Summermeadowflowers · 11/10/2023 07:05

My DD had a bottle preference though and refused the breast. I have to express for her now, it’s a pain!

Hiddenvoice · 11/10/2023 07:07

I used pretty much every brand with my baby and end in the end found one that she liked and worked for her. There’s so many different sized teats with varying levels of flow which can make it a bit if a minefield.
Id probably just buy one bottle of one brand and go from there. That way if your little one doesn’t take to it
Then you’ve not spent a lot of a whole set of bottles.

PureAmazonian · 11/10/2023 07:09

@YellowHatt
My breast feeding consultant advised after 4 weeks. As before then can cause nipple confusion and supply issues.

scrivette · 11/10/2023 07:11

The only one DC liked were the very cheap ones from Tesco which were about £1.50 as the tear was so soft. I recommended them to a couple of friends who had the same issues and their DC also took to them.

rebecca100 · 11/10/2023 07:17

MAM bottles used with Lanisnoh teats. Can still use the self sterilising function of the bottles still and can warm milk in microwave (with teat and lid off and only in short 10 sec bursts swirling after each to ensure no hotspots. This is approved on their website)

nobleisle · 11/10/2023 07:31

The first one I tired was MAM, was rejected. Tried every other one, NUK, bebe, a French one, Tommy tippie. She took MAM at 6 months 🙄

Im pregnant now and planning on one bottle a day and hopefully they'll take it and itl be MAM

Scirocco · 11/10/2023 07:35

I think it really depends on a baby's own preferences. NUK was the favourite here in the early months.

Lillybobs86 · 11/10/2023 17:30

Thank you all :)
My first born was not fussy and took any brand !!
Just didn't want to get any old one this time and wanted to get most similar to breast as poss!
Will mostly be breastfeed but I would like to express a few times to give my daughter and partner have experience of feeding as well ❤️

I have one MAM already so I think I stick with MAM and see how it goes :))
