I have been getting an odd pain, which I can only describe as someone getting a knitting needle and stabbbing where i presume my cervix is........

I am somewhere between 28-29 and a bit weeks pregnant
had it briefly on sunday then it has happened a few times today

the pain is sharp but goes in a few seconds......
any ideas?

No love, sorry

My first reaction was to say 'oo I had that toom it was nothing' but I think that may be my memory playing tricks on me.

If you can't get hold of mears soon best call your midwife

Festivepussy · 17/12/2004 11:43

I had something that felt as if the baby were screwing its elbow into my cervix...is it that sort of pain? Had it both pregnancys. Blooming well hurt! Bony sharp elbow push really hard and grind...was the feeling i remember

popsycal · 17/12/2004 11:45

this is definitely more a 'shove a knitting needle up you fanny and stab about a bit' type pain - sorry if tmi!

well if its any help I have that knitting needle WTF OUCH blow your brain out pain sometimes without being preggers!

feastofstevenmom · 17/12/2004 11:56

never had it, but am sure have seen quite a few people complain on here about it, so think it probably is quite normal.

DingWongMerrilyOnHigh · 17/12/2004 12:02

DS1 used to screw his elbow just behind my navel in the last few weeks. Screwing in to the cervix must be FAR worse

SnowmAngeliz · 17/12/2004 12:17

popsy, i have that too. (honest, i put it on the due in Feb thread a few days ago ).
It feels to me like the baby is sticking a very sharp fingernail down and trying to get out!!!

popsycal · 17/12/2004 12:18

that is the same pain - like they are pulling your cerviz open and taking a peek!

SnowmAngeliz · 17/12/2004 12:19

seriously hope you are ok. remember its safe to take paracetamol if you need pain relief

popsycal · 17/12/2004 13:34

baby is head down now but diagonal....head is in my left hip if that makes sense.....
i guess it could be a hand...

Hi
I've had this exact pain too - I'm 32 weeks.
I'll also add that my baby is head down/transverse with his head in my right hip - has been causing me all sorts of problems!

Ooh, I had this, at about the same time. I think it was contractions, actually, a sort of Braxton-Hicks. I'm not 100% of the explanation, but I am sure it was absolutely fine, totally normal, and didn't mean anything.

It's still worth talking to your midwife, but I wouldn't get worried.

PrettyHannukahndles · 17/12/2004 15:58

The knitting-needle pain can indicate a UTI. I remember it from when I had UTIs as a child. Horrid.

Though I had a milder version of that pain at a slightly later stage of pregnancy, and the midwife said it was probably the baby kicking (trampolining! ) on my cervix. I had no other UTI symptoms.

popsycal · 17/12/2004 19:16

Had tests for a UTi on monday.....clear...

popsycal · 17/12/2004 19:17

come to the conclusion that it must be dragging its nails across my cervix!
I have to go to hospital for a couple of hours of monitoring on monday so I will ask then a feed back!

Popsycal - I had this with ds2 and ds3 and it's horrible isn't it? I was told by mw that it was from when the baby's head bounces on your cervix.

Not read other posts so maybe someone else said that too!

Gosh, it takes me back - it's bloody excrutiating and can strike when you are just walking along! Ow!
