Second sweep, 39+4, how likely is labour to start for me? 1.5cm dilated, 1cm length cervix, anterior

Just had my second sweep and I’m struggling to make out the measurements my midwife gave me
Can anyone who’s had a baby help me? I’m 39+4 and being induced next Friday at 41 weeks exactly.
She said I’m 1.5cm dilated, cervix is 1cm in length, 50% soft and my cervix was completely centered and anterior. She also gave me a bishops score of 5, and at my induction they would be able to break my waters without ripening agents as my cervix would just need to be stretched ever so slightly even at this point to break them. (Hoping I dilate more by then anyway)

She gave me my second sweep, and I’m having a few cramps but not much else. This is my first baby. What is the likelihood of labour starting naturally before next Friday? Any positive experiences of natural labour with any of you who had similar measurements to me? 🙂 She did say that my ‘cervix was doing loads of work’ and was happy.

I'm just really hoping baby makes an appearance and this second sweep does something, but like i say these measurements confuse me!! Positive experiences??

Try walking up the stairs sideways and try to keep mobile as much as possible without tiring yourself out too much. Gravity will definitely help things along and fingers crossed things will get moving before next Friday...I'm sure they will 🥰

Hi Op. I had very similar measurements to you. I had my third sweep at 39+6, unfortunately labour didn’t start naturally for me. However, I went in to be induced at 40+1 and was 2cm dilated, so only 0.5 more than you. I went straight to waters breaking (this part wasn’t painful at all) and baby was born naturally 8 hours later. It did make the contractions very intense and close together but I don’t regret the induction at all! I was so scared of having it and ending in an emergency c section but it didn’t get to that for me, the force of babies head once they had broken my waters brought the contractions on thick and fast!

But I had barely any time between my sweeps and the booked induction (sweeps at 39+2, +4 and +6). I would say lots of walking! And lots of sitting on the ball. On the day of my induction I bounced on the ball on and off for about 8 hours!

I am sure things will move for you by next Friday 😊🤞🏼

Don't forget it's not all about 'measurements'
There's a complex hormonal shift that needs to happen to get labour going properly. Do things that make you happy and feel safe to get the oxytocin flowing.

Also is there a reason you're being induced next Friday? Or is it just because of 'dates'? If there's no medical reason you can always decline or settle on a later date. The anxiety of an approaching date might also be preventing you from relaxing and getting the oxytocin flowing etc.
