Fit to fly letter

Hey folks. I've been reading about needing a fit to fly note from 28 weeks, which in itself is fine, I've got a flight at 26 weeks returning at 27 weeks.

What's to stop the airline asking for a note at that point? Like how do you prove you're not yet 28 weeks and therefore don't need a note? Thinking there must be something as otherwise anyone 28-30 weeks ish could just say they were 27 weeks.

Your pregnancy notes will say how far along you are

But do they accept that as proof? Everyone's notes must look so different, some are paper based, other areas are totally online now.

Just ask your midwife for a note, they'll email you a copy and paste jobbie. Mine did no problem and I was only 24 weeks ish but I was going on a cruise and they're stricter on those.

Email them with your key facts to save them time. They'll copy those into their template and email it back.

@caerdydd12 i would imagine so, they would be used to seeing them if it’s something they check for. Although most people don’t seem to get asked unless they have a very large noticeable bump

If the current size is anything to go by I'll look fairly hefty at the point, hence why I'm worried lol. A pp said about getting a letter from my midwife so I'll do that, I don't actually see her again until 28 weeks so email it is!

Hi Op, I flew at 27 weeks (back at 28 exactly) and got a letter just incase I was asked. No one did ask, but I wanted to have it just incase. The midwife did it without me being there and left it at the clinic for me to collect as I wasn’t seeing her either. So maybe they will do that for you too!

You can bring your Mat B1 form as proof of your due date.

I've just flown at 34 weeks and no one basically took any notice whatsoever! But as others have said, I just got a fit to fly letter from my midwife and took my notes along just in case. That should be more than enough.

I flew with Easyjet at 32 weeks pregant recently. Their policy is they only need a letter once you hit 35 weeks.

As I was boarding, a stewardess asked me how far along I was. I told her and she asked for my Fit to fly letter. I then had to explain to her that Easyjet policy says no letter is needed until 35 weeks and she mumbled "Oh ok" and I boarded. Simples!

I won't actually get my matb1 until my 28 week appointment so won't have it by the time I fly

Oh wow 35 weeks is quite far then! I'll be flying with BA and I think it's 28 weeks for them.

I asked midwife for MatB1 form and Fit to Fly letter and collected them from the reception. Easy and no regrets to do.

Hi OP,

My midwife/GP said they never issue fit to fly letters (maybe area policy) , so I paid privately to get one done online (you just provide scans/photos of a couple of the pages from your notes) and got the letter in a couple of hours. Might be a good option if your midwife/GP is similar.

I flew at 33 weeks and was asked for it at the check in desk so it's definitely worth having.
