I’m 17 weeks pregnant. Should I get the Autumn Covid booster vaccine that is being offered? I work in a primary school. I’ve already had the flu vaccine. Thoughts please.

I'm a GP who had 2 Covid vaccines during my pregnancy. I would 100% recommend getting it. Covid during pregnancy is a known cause of stillbirth and premature labour, as well as being hugely more dangerous to heavily pregnant women than the general population. The vaccine has been shown to greatly reduce these risks. There is also new evidence that has come out showing that babies whose mothers had a Covid vaccine during pregnancy are significantly less likely to be hospitalised with Covid during the early months of life, due to passive immunity from their mother.

I decided to have it because the midwife said pregnant women are more likely to have breathing issues due to reduced lung capacity (particularly in third trimester).

It also seems like COVID cases are increasing quite rapidly again and the people I know that have had it have all had symptoms worse than the average cold.

I’ve never had a bad reaction to the jabs either - the most I get is a sore arm. I might have been a bit more reluctant if the jab had caused me issues in the past.

I'd recommend it too. I've had my Covid booster and flu jab last month at 14 w pregnant.
