The government NHS site states that pregnant women are at high risk if they get covid and should be priority for vaccination. When I asked my midwife in North Yorkshire she said that it is recommended that pregnant women not get the covid vaccination which is why I have never been called up for it.
Has anyone else been told this? I can’t understand why the information given by the midwife contradicts that of NHS England.

She's talking rubbish. We ask if someone is pregnant but give it regardless (don't ask me why)

Your midwife is maybe antivax, or maybe just uninformed. They won’t give them as part of their clinic so maybe she’s just not up to date?

Pregnant women are getting covid vaccines, we’ve been doing them at our surgery.

Are you able to book via the nhs site still? there is a link to the booking site on this page, or it says 119.

There was a similar thread on this last week.

The issue is that some NHS trusts around the country are giving the advice that a booster isn’t needed for pregnant women if they’ve had 2 previous vaccines. I’m aware at least one trust in Yorkshire giving this advice (rather than it being down to a rogue midwife).

I’m in the South, I haven’t been offered it and my midwife hasn’t encouraged it. I have had flu and whooping cough.

PickledScrump · 09/10/2023 20:52

My midwife also said in our trust pregnant women no longer get Covid boosters. Just whooping cough and flu vaccines.

Longbarn5 · 09/10/2023 20:56

My midwife has also said that I dont need another Covid jab, just flu and whooping cough. We are in the South.

It is dismaying how many HCPs are getting this wrong, when the (national) eligibility criteria are clear and widely promulgated

TheLongGloriesOfTheWinterMoon · 09/10/2023 21:32

At least two posters on this thread have always enjoyed telling other people that the Covid vaccination isn't necessary @Cat231
If this is a genuine question then ask your GP. Your midwife is talking rubbish.

PeopleAreToads · 09/10/2023 21:36

Agreed @RoseAndRose!!

National eligibility criteria applies and pregnant women and eligible and recommended to have the covid booster! Personal choice obviously as to whether you want it, but HCPs giving advice contrary to guidelines is baffling

iLoveFood94 · 09/10/2023 21:46

When I was pregnant (8months ago) my doctor said it was recommended I get it but I declined it. I just got the flu jab
