Anterior placenta

Hi. I should be 30 weeks on Friday. I have an anterior placenta and I have not felt significant moves or any kind of pattern. I can feel her several times a day, sometimes just barely and not at certain intervals. My last scan was almost 2 weeks ago.

I am quite confused because I don't know what reduced movement would be in my case... I have another scan scheduled next Monday.

Could you please share how it was in your case if you had an anterior placenta? Did you feel big moves and constantly? When did you worry?

Thank you.

I had this with DC1 so understand the stress that goes with it! To answer your questions, it was probably only the last 4 weeks of my pregnancy that I felt big movements. I generally felt the movements every hour but only if I was sitting down and really focusing on the movement. DC was (and still is) a powerful kicker so its even more remarkable to me now that I felt so little. I worried when movements were less powerful than I was used to and I ended up I triage maybe 5 times. If you're ever worried, for whatever reason, you should go.

My advice would be to ask your midwife for advice. If you're really stressed out about it, contact them before your next appointment as they are the experts way more than people on a forum. I would say reduced movements would definitely be less powerful than you are used to but beyond that it's hard to say. It might be worth recording the movements that you do feel. When/what they're like/what you're doing to help see if you can spot any patterns. For example, our evening meal time tends to vary quite a lot but I've realised that DC2 goes bananas after we've had it. It took quite a while for me to realise this was a pattern as I was expecting similar amounts of movement and similar times.

Good luck and I hope all progresses well with the rest of your pregnancy.

Hi op, i has this with dc1.
Movements were very faint, and even as he got bigger I struggled to feel much. I’d have a cold drink and see if I could feel anything. I really had to concentrate.
The last few weeks I was being monitored for reduced movements, they decided to induce when I got to 39 weeks. I was in every day with reduced movements that last couple of weeks.
If you can’t feel baby at all, or it changes in anyway go in to be monitored.

I had an anterior placenta with my little boy who is now 9 months old. Like PP, I had to really sit still and focus to feel movement but the further along I went (I'd say 34 weeks onwards) I could really feel his kicks at the sides of my belly. He used to really kick me at 5am every morning and now that seems to be the time he likes to start his day! I went in to the pregnancy unit 4x for reduced movement but it wasn't, he'd usually just positioned himself right behind the placenta, making it even harder to feel him! If you have any doubt at all though, just go and get checked. Every time I went I was apologising profusely and I always got told off and told they would always always rather check. Hope this helps and congratulations!

I had an anterior placenta with my daughter, i didn’t feel anything strong until around 34/35 weeks but some days id feel nothing and spent more time in MAU than at home 🤦🏼‍♀️

I went in any time i couldn’t feel any movement or couldn’t get her to move even slightly, which was a lot but the midwives were so encouraging and told me if i don’t feel her to go straight in!
I started to feel her on a morning snd late evening and maybe at odd times if sitting through the day.

Ds was anterior placenta and to be fair I felt plenty of movement but just didn’t get the hands, feet, elbows and knees picking out. DS would get hiccups daily after 32 weeks which was reassuring. He also used to move around more when I was in the bath. He was transverse so would push against my right side with his feet and also kick against my spine which would send electric shock like sensations up and down my back.
The movement was much more subtle. As you near full term it is like they are shuffling around rather than doing somersaults.

Thank you all so much. Happy to hear it worked out ok for you. Managed to make an appointment for tomorrow. In the last minutes she was quite active. I'll go anyway. But I am a bit less anxious now.

I had an anterior placenta and basically never felt proper movement. The most I ever felt was the kind of swooshy, fluttery feeling that most people seem to get very early on.

The antenatal services are useless with anterior placentas when you don't feel anything. They always go on about monitoring your movements but are never willing to accept that you might not feel any. They keep telling you "as long as it meets your normal patterns" it's fine, but if you say your normal pattern is nothing then they don't seem to believe it. I ended up in triage several times or on monitoring during my appointments because I just didn't feel anything for days. There was always a thumping heartbeat and baby kicking away on the monitors.
