Hip pain/sciatica

Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me with the severe pain in my hips that I'm suffering from. It's worst at night and wakes me up every couple of hours. The pain is so intense it radiates down my side/hip and causes my bum and thigh to be completely numb down to my knee.

Midwife has essentially passed it off as "a downside of pregnancy" but I'm not sure I can manage another 6-8 weeks of this alongside a busy job where I'm on my feet all day.

Make sure that your hips aren't stacked on top of each other. Try to tilt slightly forwards or backwards. It's made a huge difference to me.

It sounds really similar to what I have - have you googled pelvic girdle pain? It affects 1/5 pregnancies apparently.
ask your midwife for a referral to physio they can fit you with a belt which helps if walking / on your feet
also sleeping with a cushion / pillow between your legs is a big help too!
wishing you all the best!

I had SI joint dysfunction when Pg and I think it was similar to what you describe. The belt thingy was amazingly effective. Simple too

This! Rather than stacking hips, if you have a pregnancy pillow, lay top leg bent over the pillow and keep bottom leg out straight so you are leaning forwards slightly into the pillow. A physio said you shouldn't actually stack your hips as it creates too much pressure.

The only thing that's working for me this pregnancy is having a big, firm cushion (yoga bolster thing would be even better) under my knees while I lie slightly propped up on another massive cushion and enough pillows to make it work. It's not perfect for my neck but it's sorting my hips out. I've also noticed that stress makes it much worse! I hope you find a solution that works for you.

To be clear, I mean lying on my back, but propped up so it's not a problem for the vena cava.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I'm having a bit more sleep now that I'm laid on another duvet and not stacking my hips.
