Moved into new home with mice infestation

So I'm almost 12 weeks pregnant and we've been in our new home for a week. After contracts had been done, a day before move in the landlord decided to tell us that there has previously been nice, but they don't think currently. Anyway, we've since seen a few mouse droppings in cupboards, and today we pulled out sofa and there were mouse droppings at back of sofa. I'm at a loss of what to do. I've googled and seen that can potentially be harmful to pregnant women, I also have small children. Cat allergies in family means that's not a great option for us. I just feel so frustrated!

Pay the council to come and deal with it. Or put down traps and poison yourself. It’s really quite normal to have mice occasionally and you will have to deal with them at some point in your life!

ideally you would work out where they are getting in and block up their entrance

Incredibly common, block up holes. Wet poo with spray wear gloves to dispose, don't vacuum mouse poo. Set up traps where you saw the poo. Mice hate peppermint scent and vinegar so use them in cleaning around.

Personally I'd photo the evidence, email it to the landlord making reference to the fact they'd said there had been mice there before and request them to get a pest control firm in straight away. Make sure any food in accessible cupboards is in Tupperware etc or moved elsewhere too . Once a proper job has been done with poison and identifying and blocking access routes they shouldn't be back.
