Induction query

Hey,

im currently 36+4 weeks pregnant. I have had multiple reduced movement episodes since 26 weeks and have been out in ctg monitoring. I’m currently on daily ctg monitoring till baby girl is here.

I also have polyhedramious ( think I’ve spelt it wrong but too much amniotic fluid) and my baby girl has a cyst in her pelvis which is being looked at by fetal medicine.

what is other women’s experiences like when it comes to this and asking for an induction? This is my first pregnancy and baby girl is healthy so far , minus the cyst. I would feel safer if baby girl was here sooner because I’m not able to feel her move and it’s a constant worry so an induction vbac would be better in my eyes however this is my first pregnancy and I’ve no clue how any of this works.

any advice would be appreciated 😊

Hi @Lanie03

I had my first baby back in June and was induced at 39 weeks. Induction for me was due to multiple episodes of reduced movement from around 26/27 weeks. My consultant was very reluctant to induce me even at 39 weeks and definitely wasn’t going to any earlier as baby was always showing as being fine on CTG. Reduced movement for me was due to an anterior placenta. I must have been back and forth for monitoring upwards of 10 times when my consultant agreed to induce me at 39 weeks. I also wanted induction as the anxiety of not feeling my baby was getting too much. Definitely stress your concern to your midwives/consultant and put forward what you want. They tend to be very reluctant to induce for a good reason prior to 39 weeks but I was very anxious and I think my consultant thought enough was enough.

My induction started on a Saturday and DD was born on a Tuesday via emergency c-section in the end. It was a long process and not the delivery I would have hoped for but I would absolutely do it all again. If you have any questions about induction or anything feel free to ask or message me privately.

Hope everything goes well with the rest of your pregnancy and birth! 😊x

I had my son at 37+6 4 years ago. This was due to ongoing episodes of reduce movement.

I had a great experience and the labour / delivery I had hoped for.

Pessary was inserted at around 8pm and things started for me quite quickly.Contractions / surges went on through the night & pessary was removed in the morning. I was around 6cm by then so taken to labour & delivery suite. No drip was needed after pessary was removed & was free to walk around and use the yoga ball and labour however felt good for me. Waters were broke and & using gas & air I had a beautiful delivery. Son arrived 2pm.

You can have a positive birth experience with inductions & know a few who have had a positive experience.

I would recommend doing the positive birth company digital hypnobirthing pack as it will help your mindset.

good luck!

Hey I also had reduced movement (I think only 3 episodes but 2 or more and they must allow for induction in my hospital) . Was induced at 38+2. Had 2 pessaries starting at 12am ,waters broke @ 12pm, that hormone drip (oxytocin is it??) and my son was born at 7pm after suction and episiotomy . Because it was my first baby I really didn’t know much better and was given very little information regarding my choices I was just wheeled down after monitoring to the labour ward as I had Covid at the time too. I’m 19 weeks pregnant and am going to aim for as little intervention as possible if I can xx

@Lanie03 I would enjoy and trust the careful monitoring and see how it goes. It's all worth weighing up. Inductions can really stress babies out so it's not quite as simple as just having her hear post induction. Trust the doctors advise and always ask for a second opinion if you'd like more clarity.
