36 weeks pregnant hill climb

Hi, I’m 36 weeks pregnant and on Tuesday I climbed golden cap in dorset- elevation 190m - then walked down the other side and then turned around and did it all in reverse. I took it very slowly and gradually but did find it challenging.

Yesterday evening I felt exhausted and today I’ve been mostly staying in bed so far sleeping and just relaxing. Baby has been moving normally since I did the walk but I am slightly worried I’ve over exerted myself and now wondering if I distressed the baby doing that walk. Fairly average fitness levels before pregnancy but I haven’t done very well keeping active throughout - though I do have an active 2 year old I’m running around after most days.

Can anyone please reassure that this level of exercise is not dangerous? I’m sure I’m overthinking now and just need to rest and recover today but would really appreciate some reassurance!

many thanks

I went on a hike at 40 weeks on the east coast, seemed a good idea at the time

Hi @Sleepingallday
At 27 weeks i went to Paris and had to do alot of stairs and walking. Straight after i went on holiday to Cornwall, alot of uphill walking!
All was ok, honestly don't worry xx

@WandaWonder @Summer2424 thank you both! Great to have some reassurance ☺️ Especially as I won’t have another midwife appointment for over a week. I’ll be taking it easy from now on!

Why would you think it’s dangerous? Sounds absolutely fine if you were able to manage it. Walking won’t cause distress to a baby

It absolutely isn’t dangerous.
If there had been any problem you just wouldn’t have been able to do it.
Remember that your body gives priority to the baby. The walk tired you out that’s all, which is normal at 36 weeks pregnant!

I was told to walk up and down hills to induce labour, so was walking through Glen's and up and down hills right up until I gave birth, so I don't think it's dangerous at all later on in pregnancy.

For what it's worth, I don't think walking up and down hills/stairs was enough to put me into labour, I even went on a 3 mile walk after my waters broke to try to progress labour, which didn't have any impact at all!

I was so uncomfortable in my ribs from 38 weeks due to there being no room left in my torso that I was willing to try anything to try to get baby out so long, hilly walks was on my list of things to do.
