Early viability scan

Hey everyone,
I had an early miscarriage in April this year (first pregnancy) I went to the GP as about a week after my positive tests I had bleeding and they referred me to early pregnancy but I couldn’t stand not knowing so I had an early private scan at 6 weeks and they basically said there was no sign of pregnancy and said it was a pregnancy of unknown location. Part of me wondered if I’d made the whole thing up! After the bleed all of my symptoms disappeared but it being my first pregnancy I had no idea how common miscarriages are. I tested negative in the days following.

I am currently 6 weeks. I had booked an early viability scan for this Friday, but they advised I move it back a week to when I originally booked it as it will put me at 7+4 and they said it’s much more likely that they will be able to see more. I’ve moved it to next Friday (the 13th eek).
How much/what can I expect to see at this stage? I am a bit antsy as last time I had one they told me there was nothing there!

I had a 7 week scan this time at the EPU following recurrent miscarriage. We saw a bean shaped baby with little arm and leg buds and an all important heartbeat :) I hope you get to see the same! I know how hard it is to imagine a good outcome following a miscarriage. I've got another scan in two weeks and I'm still terrified.

I had a scan at 6 weeks and saw a little blob and the heartbeat. Hopefully they will do a transvaginal scan so you can see something. The sonography also showed me my ovaries and could tell which ovary I ovulated from and showed me the corpus luteum which was interesting in a gross kinda way! Not too much to see but it was reassuring. If they scan you too early the chances are more slim that you will see a heartbeat and could cause unnecessary worry.

I had scans at 6+2 for my last 3 pregnancies as I was under the recurrent miscarriage clinic. I saw nothing on any of them apart from a space in the uterus showing that the pregnancy was in the right place. These were internal scans. Despite being assured by my consultant that this was all they expected to see so early, as it was literally to confirm location, it was a very stressful, LONG wait for the next scan. They don’t like scanning so early because unless you know exactly when implantation took place (ie you had IVF), then dates can be out by up to a week or more. What we think of as being 6weeks pregnant relies on you having a 28 day cycle, ovulate day 14, sperm meets egg right away, and you implant on day 5. Most of us don’t follow these timings, you might have a 30 day cycle, ovulate on day 18, sperm meets egg at 24 hours, and implantation is on day 9. Already this would put someone 11 days behind the ‘6 weeks’. I was measuring 4+4 when I was 6+2 according to last period - 2 out of 3 of those pregnancies are currently refusing to go to bed, and one was sadly another miscarriage. It’s better to wait a week like they suggest as then you’ll be able to have a more reliable assessment for how your pregnancy is progressing. Good luck x
