Moving house soon after birthp

How soon after giving birth would you say it is reasonable and safe for baby to move house? Has any-one moved with a newborn? Due to give birth a month before rent expires, although landlord is flexible and nice(doesn't know about baby yet though!), but we think we would be safer with a mortgage. Flat cold and draughty and high ceilinged too so not ideal.

We moved with a 6 week old. Luckily we had lots of support. I spent the day with my mum. My Dad and DH did the final packing and my sister helped when they arrived at our new house.

It was not easy with the packing and unpacking with a new born but the day of the move would have been fine. Unfortunately the cat escaped from our old house. My DH failed in getting her back so my mum drove me and the baby all the way back to the old house so I could catch the cat. Rather stressful!

We moved with a 6 week old last year, utilised our carrier a lot, but it was fine really, also roped in family to help

I would say 6 weeks, but it will vary depending on your labour and how easy going your baby is. One of mine was super chill and always happy. The other did not stop crying ever, bless her.

Would you have the funds to pay for packing as well as removals? Would be a big help x

I know two people who have done it at about a week (obviously not planned or ideal!).

Both times they were fine - they and the baby went somewhere else and their DH did everything to do with moving, setting up baby stuff first. So they came to the new house in the evening with everything they needed.

We moved from New Zealand to the uk with a 6 month old 🙄. No family support, though we were going to my parents on the UK end at least.

I wouldn’t recommend trying to pack and sell / dispose of an entire house / car / life on the other side of the world with a first baby in tow.

Yep. We moved house when our son was three weeks old. On Christmas Eve 😂

It's hilarious now but given the choice I wouldn't do it again 😅

Yeah we moved in when our son was 3 weeks old, we had a lot of support though otherwise I don't know how we'd have managed it!

SockQueen · 04/10/2023 21:16

I did it when DS1 was 4 weeks old. Not an experience I'm keen to repeat, but we survived. We hired a full packing/moving service, I couldn't have done it otherwise. Didn't help that DH was totally snowed under at work and therefore no help at all.

Hire a moving company, you can’t rely on your ability to lift anything as you may be recovering from c section etc.

Forgot to add that the cherry on the cake was that this was during lockdown 🙄

No really! Hopefully family can help though. Praying baby comes close to due date then jt would be 6 weeks!
