Feeling sick but not actually throwing up - is it likely to be a girl

Hello all, I know the old wives tale that if you're really sick it's a girl etc etc and it seems to be one of the few old wives tales that a lot of people agree with - but if I'm only feeling v sick but not actually being sick, does this still hold true? I know it's all hit and miss but if anyone's got any experience of this would be v grateful to know

I was like that with both of mine and I had one of each

whomovedmychocolate · 06/03/2008 12:41

I felt sick much more than I was actually sick with both DDs pregnancy and this one - this one is a boy! I think it's just hormone levels more than anything. Also I hate vomiting so I think I just stop myself actually hurling a lot of the time.

DoubleBluff · 06/03/2008 12:42

I felt queasy but was never sick with both my....

BOYS!

NotQuiteCockney · 06/03/2008 12:43

Hmmm ... given what you're saying, I'd be 100% sure it's a

baby!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Threw up with DS

Felt sick

and then threw up with DD

Sayuri · 06/03/2008 12:46

LOL

I constantly feel dreadful and sick but Ive only actually been sick once - There have been days when I have prayed to vomit because the one time I did I felt fantastic for the rest of the day.

I think the being sick wives tale flips around depending on who is telling it because I have heard that it indicates a boy so who knows

Jacanne · 06/03/2008 12:47

I felt very queasy with both of mine but only sick a couple of times - they were both girls. Two of my friends had hyperemesis and had boys - I think it's an old wives tale

belgo · 06/03/2008 12:49

I was really sick with dd1; less sick (but still vomiting) with dd2; no vomiting at all so far with this pregnancy, but plenty of nausea.

Carey87 · 06/03/2008 12:55

sayuri - how many weeks pregnant are you?

Carey87 · 06/03/2008 12:55

sorry meant kitsmummy! lol!

chubbleigh · 06/03/2008 13:11

I read a study a long time ago, it said it was not an old wives tale in so far as data had been collected from 1000's of women in order to show a slight increase in sickness for girl baby pregnancies.

carmenelectra · 06/03/2008 13:13

I felt constantly sick with both of mine, all day for about first 18 wks ish. Both were boys! Felt slightly sicker with 2nd preg, so i thought maybe a different sex, but NO!

staryeyed · 06/03/2008 13:19

I had 5 months of extreme nausea and a boy!

expatinscotland · 06/03/2008 13:21

ALL those old wives tales and the Chinese calender were dead wrong at predicting the sex of my children.

Twice.

scorpio1 · 06/03/2008 13:22

i was the same and have both. Boys are nice, btw....

bohemianbint · 06/03/2008 13:23

Can anyone link that Chinese predictor thingy please? It was total cobblers the last time so would like to see what it comes out with this time...

Egg · 06/03/2008 13:26

Felt a bit sick with first pg, but never actually sick. Was a boy.

Felt sick all the time for first 12 or so weeks with second pg. Was a boy AND a girl .

Sis felt sick but was never sick with any of three pgs, she has two girls and one boy.

It's all a load of cobblers .

pollyblue · 06/03/2008 13:30

Felt v.sick for first three months but never actually threw up - had a girl! My cousin was very sick indeed for 4 months with both her babies and they were both girls.

Felt nauseous but not very sick at all. NO throwing up. heartburn now but not much compared with others. I'm having a girl.

O
27+4

Sayuri · 06/03/2008 13:48

Apparently by their caculations Im having a boy BUT it also says that if you are 21 when you give birth and concieve at any other time of the year but January you will have a girl, which doesnt even make sense with that whole 50/50 thing

kitsmummy · 06/03/2008 13:53

thanks everyone. Cary87 - am 13 weeks pregnant, and I'm wondering so much about this one cos with my son the pregnancy was a breeze, and but this one couldn't be more different.

With dd I had hardly any sickness and with ds I felt sick for the whole 9 months.

debinaustria · 06/03/2008 13:59

I'd like to think it was true! With ds1 and ds2 I had sickness(in the mornings) for the 1st 16 weeks or so. This time it's so different, sick all the time every day for the 1st 20 weeks or so, then for the past 6 weeks I'm still sick but only in the mornings .In my last 3 scans Dr has looked for the sex and can't say for definite - he thinks it might be a girl . Keeping my fingers crossed but not buying pink!!

claireybee · 06/03/2008 14:18

I puked constantly for 20 weeks with DD and had to be careful what I ate for the rest of pregnancy or I'd be sick again.

With DS I felt sick for a few weeks but was only sick a few times.
