Experience of baby with extra digits

Hello - I'm pregnant with my second and at my recent 20w scan found out baby has an extra little toe. The (excellent) medics said it'll likely require surgery at 12-18m to remove it for cosmetic reasons but isn't likely to impact his development. They also said there's a small chance it could be linked to a bigger chromosomal abnormality but it seems unlikely based on my bloods/scans to date. They've offered the amniotic fluid test to confirm, if I want to. I'm inclined not to take it because it seems low risk and I know it can increase chances of miscarriage, albeit by a small amount. My question is if anyone else has experience of this - babies with extra digits in general and if they were born with any other additional needs? Asking this to prepare myself and to have some more knowledge. Thanks

No, but I knew a few adults with extra digits and they were fine? One ended up getting sports sponsorships because it gave some sort of advantage.. obviously that is all anecdotal and I imagine not all kids with extra digits are being rushed off to the olympics

No mine but best friends daughter was born with 6 toes on both feet. She had a minor op at about 18 months to remove, just day surgery & no further issues. She's now mid 20s, no ASN, did a PhD & has a great career.
Edit - hers were also extra small toes

Anne Boleyn was rumoured to have one extra smallest finger, when she was Queen she made long sleeves that covered the hands fashionable. I was at school with a boy who had thirteen fingers as well, that was the most interesting thing about him, tbh.

I am aware that this is not especially relevant, but it’s quite interesting.

I was born with an extra finger on each hand and an extra toe on each foot. All removed when I was a baby/ toddler. Apart from an interesting story and a few small scars it has no other impact on my life.

My daughter was born with an extra thumb. Operation at 18mths to remove it as it was causing an issue for the main thumbs growth. No problem since.

Me! I had 11 toes! I'm fine.

There is sometimes a connection to spinal conditions such as an Arnold Chiari malformation but I would think they'd look for all that stuff.

I had an op to whip said toe off at 12 months and that is another whole long story...

Years ago I used to babysit a wee boy who was born with 12 toes. Had the extras removed as a toddler and bounced back incredibly quickly. Grew up to be an international rugby player and got a full ride scholarship to a major American university.

My nephew was born with an extra thumb. He had it removed and no other problems.
