Is this SPD and should I just go straight to an osteopath?

25 weeks pregnant, and over the last week I've noticed pain at the top of my inner thighs that feels like muscle strain every time I move my legs apart.... rolling over at night, in and out of the car and even trying to have sex last night...

I had a quick Google and I think it sounds like SPD... reading stories I'm so worried about it getting worse and not being able to walk! This happened to my friend and she ended up on crutches. I'll call the midwife tomorrow but can I just go straight to an osteopath if I'm prepared to pay? Or is there some kind of official diagnosis process? I'm just so scarred by (on other health issues) joining endless NHS carousel for treatment but also I don't want to over react as I'm often prone to a bit of a panic!!

It does sound like PGP - talk to your midwife about getting a physiotherapy appointment.

Yes it does. I would contact your midwife to see if manual therapy is available on the NHS. In the meantime I would go straight to one of the recommended practitioners on the Pelvic Partnership website (even if it's a drive away) and call their helpline for a chat. Early intervention can really help.

Completely agree with all of this! The pelvic partnership group are brilliant.

Some trusts provide manual therapy, and some don't. But I wouldn't wait around if I can afford it.

Thank you all so much!

I called the midwife this morning and she said if it was still bothering me at the next appointment (3 weeks time) she could give me some physio resources or crutches if it got worse, but to read up online.

So I've decided to go straight to an osteopath as I'm happy to pay to hopefully do something before / in case it gets worse! Midwife said she's had women who seeing an osteopath / chiropractor helped but couldn't recommend as outside the NHS, but I've found someone local-ish with testimonials for PGP. Hopefully they'll be able to see me!

If you're willing to pay to go to an osteopath I would recommend finding a women's pelvic physio instead and paying to go straight for that, as they'll have expert knowledge in this area.
