Flu vaccine 2 weeks before

I'm 2 minds wether to get the flu vaccine or not, have 2 weeks until I give birth. Been ill throughout pregnancy, don't want to end up more I'll as have read a lot of people have side effects after the vaccine. I had bad side effects after the whooping cough.

Wondering if anyone thinks it's worth it so close to my due date?

Or does it give baby protection against flu also?

Thanks

I had it around a similar time last time. Was one of my last midwife appointments. She recommended I still have it even though close to due date.

I personally have never had side effects from a flu jab, but I did have flu in pregnancy, and I wanted to die. I’ve never felt so ill in my life.
You don’t want to get flu while baby is small either, it will protect you for this flu season, so I’d get it done.

I just got mine (and the covid one) at 38+6. Given me a little peace of mind as I'd hate to catch it while dealing with a newborn. Just have a sore arm, but I shouldn't have picked the left arm as that's the side I want to be lying on!

im 36 weeks and not having it this time. They try to anticipate which flu strains will be around that year so it doesn’t prevent all strains of flu. I had it with my previous two pregnancies but this time I don’t really see the point as I’ll have had the baby by the time flu season starts.

Had mine this week at 35 weeks. I was a bit tired from it for a day or two but otherwise well.

I checked with MW if OK to have it close before birth (I am meeting consultant this week about delivering early). She said it is OK and as my immune system will be down for a few weeks after baby then it's still a good shout.

I've had the flu jab the last 4 years and never had any side effects other than a sore arm. Had my latest one last Friday at 13 weeks. I had flu 5 years ago and never want to get it like that again! Certainly not during pregnancy or soon after birth. So yes, I would have it if I were you, it might give some protection to baby too but I'm not certain of that.

I had the flu jab at about 33 weeks and no side effects at all. It’s good to pass on some protection to your unborn child too.

Flu isn’t just a bad cold, it can be very serious and have you literally unable to get out of bed or look after yourself (or anyone else) for a week or more. I know a few people who were very blasé about the flu jab until they got flu, and now they get jabbed every year as it was so awful.

I had my flu jab the other day and I’ve had no side effects. Not even a sore arm 😊

Juicyjuicymango · 02/10/2023 09:25

I've had it at 37 weeks.

I'd rather have a sore arm for a couple of days than have flu and a newborn to look after.

I don't understand why you wouldn't tbh

I had it late on I think I was 37 weeks and worried about the same thing.Just had a sore arm, I react worse to the covid jab. In my area Flu was a big problem for small children last year and the paediatric ward was full of children unwell with it so was keen to prevent my toddler/new baby getting it bad. The whole family has had jabs 😂Good luck! Flu season is more like end oct/November so you’ll be covered in 2 weeks from the jab.

I would, even if not for yourself for your baby. It will offer them protection which can last for the first few months of their lives when they are at their most vulnerable.
