Leg cramp at night

I’m in the second trimester and I have been getting really bad leg cramp at night.

Any suggestions on how to stop it? It’s not something I have ever suffered from before so I’m not sure what to do!

Try upping your magnesium

Tonic water and keep your legs out from under the covers.

I got terrible leg cramps when I was pregnant - he's 35 now. I took a spray to bed with me.

I’m in the same boat as you, they wake me some nights. I just curl my toes and it usually subsides, or rub my calves - not sure how to get them to actually stop cramping though think it’s part and parcel of pregnancy unfortunately 😣xx

I had this & if you can put your leg against something - so maybe eg foot of the bed or a wall and just push then that stretching and pushing ( for me ) seemed to work ) . Lack of salt can sometimes cause cramp ( but please do not take more because of this - get other advice )

Definitely magnesium if your midwife says it's ok.
It worked wonders for me and I still take it, especially in the summer 😊

I found that a glass of milk before bed helped.

Magnesium spray on the calves worked for me! (BetterYou brand)

I never found a proper solution, I put a pillow between my legs and that helped a lot of nights but sometimes my leg still cramped. Oh I tried stretching it once when I woke up to the cramp and it actually caused me a lot of pain for a short time so I avoided that and just tried gently massaging it. I never had it before pregnancy, it started in the second trimester and resolved itself about 3 weeks postpartum.

For leg cramp in bed, my Pilates tutor advises popping a bar of soap in your bed. I was sceptical, so I Googled it. I did it, and I get less cramp. Weird! Nobody knows why it works.

I find I tend to get leg cramp if I've not drank enough water/fluids that day, so my muscles are dehydrated. I just make more effort to drink more when it happens

I find it’s worse if I’ve not exercised and just sat at my desk all day. A 30-minute walk in the afternoon definitely helps.

Also my midwife said to drink a lot of water.
